Nicole pre-tournament quotes
----------------------------

"I like to play on the clay, but grass is not bad either. I am always excited to play on grass because it is a small part of the year, but there is so much history, and so many traditions associated with it.

"I'm not going to set my goals to say I need to do better at Wimbledon than I did at the French. It will be a completely different Grand Slam and a completely different tournament. Just as I did in France, I will take it round by round, focus 100% and give it my all.

[Re. French Open semi-final]
"It's sports, that happens. Of course I was very sad, but what can one do after a lost match? I cannot cry for a week because of that. But it was great for me. I'd never gone as far in a Grand Slam, never beaten the number one player in the world, and the former number one in the world. For me it's awesome to know I can beat those players even if they play well. It gave me a lot of confidence and experience.

[Re. Eastbourne]
"I decided not to play there; I don't want any possibility of injury.

[Re. Maria Sharapova]
"I don't know her personally; I see her around. It doesn't bother me. I don't really think about it. I just do my own thing; she does her own thing.

"I think if people that know us sat us next to each other, they would figure out we're two totally different people. Everything, the way we talk, our styles. She's a great player. She's done great, she's won major tournaments, so she's definitely an amazing champion and an awesome player, but I do my stuff my way - a totally different way."

[What way would that be, Nicole?]

[Re. exams]
"I had a lot of stuff, from marketing, to finances, to Czech literature, English, German, everything. I finished my last exam on Wednesday. It's tough. Twice or three times a year I do written and oral exams for every subject. Math is what worries me most - that always is a struggle.

"It was mostly 'A's, a couple of 'B's. My worst result was finances. I'm not good at stringing that all together."

Maria Sharapova
---------------

"It's amazing what Nicole did in France, and it's exciting to have a new generation coming up, and someone as young as she is to be doing so well. We have never practised or played a tournament together, but we do bump each other at the academy sometimes. It is always nice to see someone from there doing so well."

Nicole Vaidišová preview
------------------------

1r: It should certainly be an attractive match between the sexy Nicole and the pretty Klára Koukalová (who recently got married). The two Czechs have never played each other before, but Klára should be no match for Nicole, although she did prove her grass-court proficiency by winning the title at 's-Hertogenbosch 2005.

2r: I'm not familiar with Ivana Lisjak or Katerina Bondarenko, although I do know that Katerina won the Girls' Singles at Wimbledon 2004 (ironically she is older than the Women's Singles champion of that year!). Nicole should be too powerful for either of them.

3r: The seedings say Marion Bartoli, but I wasn't impressed with what I saw of Marion at Birmingham and Eastbourne. She's a good Selesian player, but she's put on a lot of weight this year, and her game just fails to excite me any more. Nicole has never played her, but I can imagine her beating Marion up pretty badly if they meet now.

I hope it will be Karolina Šprem instead. Karolina beat Venus Williams at Wimbledon 2004, and I was even more impressed with her losing performance against Williams at the French Open 2006. Karolina goes for broke on every shot, she has flairsome power, but inevitably she makes loads of unforced errors. Nicole should be too solid for her. Oh - and Karolina is a very attractive girl too!

4r: When I saw Svetlana Kuznetsova in Nicole's draw, I was like, "oh no, not /her/ again!" It was the muscular Kuznetsova who shot Bambi at both Wimbledon 2005 (my first time to see Nicole play) and in the recent French Open semi-final (where Nicole served for a place in the final and failed). But both those matches were three-setters, so Nicole certainly has a fighting chance, and if Anastasia Myskina could beat Kuznetsova at Eastbourne, why not Nicole?

qf: It gets even nastier as Nicole would, in all probability, be facing Kim Clijsters at this stage. The muscular Clijsters combines great movement with plenty of power of her own, but she's not as dominant on grass as she is on hard courts; Nicole should get more pay-off from her big serves and forehands on grass than on any other surface.

I would like nothing more than for Birmingham champion Vera Zvonarëva to upset Clijsters in the first round and become Nicole's quarter-final opponent instead.

First round: Klára Koukalová

=================
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Wimbledon, England; grass; Grand Slam)
================= http://www.wimbledon.org/
First round
-----------

+ NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10] d. Klára Koukalová, 7-5 7-5

The BBC didn't have the decency to show this match - they used every British man in the draw as an excuse not to - so I had to settle for live scores at www.wimbledon.org.

It was a tougher match than I expected - very tight and serve-dominated - but it seems that Nicole showed her championship-qualities in the decisive moments of each set.

First Set:
VAIDIŠOVÁ _* * *@__*@* 7
KOUKALOVÁ * * *__@*___ 5

The match started at 19:06 BST.

Koukalová serving 0-0: 15/0, 30/15, 40/15, held.
Nicole serving 0-1: 30/0, held.
Koukalová serving 1-1: 30/0, 40/15, held.
Nicole serving 1-2: 30/0, held.
Koukalová serving 2-2: 15/15... held.
Nicole serving 2-3: 30/0, 40/15, 40/30, held.
Koukalová serving 3-3: 15/30, 30/30, 30/40 (BP), 40/40, broken.
Nicole serving 4-3: 0/40 (3 BPs), 30/40, broken.
Koukalová serving 4-4: held to love.
Nicole serving to stay in the first set at 4-5: 30/15, 40/15, held.
Koukalová serving 5-5: 30/0, 30/30, 40/30, 40/40, ad Nicole (BP), broken.
Nicole serving for the first set at 6-5: 0/15, 30/15, 40/30 (SP), 40/40, ad Nicole (SP #2), Nicole won the first set 7-5 at 19:45.

Murray v Massú just finished, but now Freeview BBC are showing Bogdanovic v Nadal on both BBC 2 and Freeview-channel 301!

Second Set:
VAIDIŠOVÁ _* *@*___*@* 7
KOUKALOVÁ * *___*@*___ 5

Koukalová serving 0-0: held.
Nicole serving 0-1: 40/0, held.
Koukalová serving 1-1: 15/0, 30/15... held.
Nicole serving 1-2: 15/0, 30/40 (BP), 40/40, ad Nicole, held.

This match's chances of televisation faded possibly beyond recall when BBC 2 ended their live coverage to show a very premature Today at Wimbledon!

To be televised now, this match needs to be still going when either Bogdanovic v Nadal (0:2 *2-3, on Freeview 301) or Delgado v Berrer (2:2 *3-2, on Freeview 302) finishes. It would be nice for me to see not only Nicole play, but also pretty Klára for the very first time.

Koukalová serving 2-2: 15/15, 30/30, broken.
Nicole serving 3-2: held to love.
Koukalová serving 2-4: 30/0, 30/15, 40/30, held.

Koukalová is playing the waiting-game (holding her own serve and waiting to see if Nicole can serve it out), just as Kuznetsova did in that French Open semi-final...

Nicole serving 4-3: 0/15, 15/15, 30/30, 30/40 (BP), 40/40, ad Koukalová (BP #2), broken.

Nicole's victory is in great danger now - the memory of a choke often comes back to haunt you.

Delgado v Berrer has just finished, but now Freeview-channel 302 is showing Seppi v Baker! I can't believe how many British men they have used as excuses not to show women's tennis on Ladies' Day!

Koukalová serving 4-4: 30/0... held.
Nicole serving to stay in the second set at 4-5: 0/30, 15/30, 15/40 (2 SPs) -> 40/40, ad Nicole, held.

Great recovery there!

Now Bogdanovic v Nadal has finished, freeing up Freeview-channel 301... BUT CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT THOSE CRETINOUS NO-HOPE DUR-BRAINS HAVE CLOSED IT DOWN!!!

Koukalová serving 5-5: 15/30, 15/40 (2 BPs) -> 40/40, ad Nicole (BP #3), broken.
Nicole serving for the match at 6-5: 15/0, 15/15, 40/15 (2 MPs), Nicole won 7-5 7-5 at 20:30.

The tactful cactus by your window
Surveys the prairie of your room
Mobile spins to its collision
Klára puts her head between her paws
They've opened shops down on west side
Will all the cacti find a home?
But the key to the city
Is in the sun that pins the branches to the sky
[David Bowie, "Eight Line Poem" from Hunky Dory]

Nicole's next opponent will be Wimbledon 2004 Girls' Singles champion Kateryna Bondarenko. I've never seen Kateryna play - only her sister Alyona (who is very attractive, BTW, but is just a typical prototype in tennis-terms). I don't see anything for Nicole to be scared of in Kateryna's 2006 results.

Hey: NOT sure if it's appropriate to publically "Thank You," but here it is....

As a fan of Nicole for two years, I'm glad to see her hitting the "BIG time...."

Second round: Kateryna Bondarenko

=================
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Wimbledon, England; grass; Grand Slam)
================= http://www.wimbledon.org/
Second round
------------

+ NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10] d. Kateryna Bondarenko, 6-1 6-1

Once again, I had to make do with following live scores at www.wimbledon.org due to the BBC's appalling lack of coverage, but Nicole made light work of the Wimbledon 2004 Girls' Singles champion, with as little resistance as the scoreline implies (i.e. without a lot of deuce-games), and without losing her serve.

First Set:
VAIDIŠOVÁ _*@*@*@ 6
BONDARENK *______ 1

The match started at 18:15 BST on Court 14. But the commentators were talking in the studio on BBC 2, Freeview-channel 302 was showing Sanguinetti v Ancic, and Freeview-channel 301 was showing athletics.

Bondarenko serving 0-0: held to love.
Nicole serving 0-1: held to love.

Another serve-dominated match like yesterday?

Bondarenko serving 1-1: 0/15, 15/15, 15/30, 30/30, 30/40 (BP), broken.

Now BBC 2 and Freeview-channel 302 are both showing Sanguinetti v Ancic! It's been another appalling day in terms of lack of coverage of women's tennis, even on Freeview BBCi which has enabled me to watch women's matches a high percentage of the time in the last two Wimbledons.

Nicole serving 2-1: 15/0, 30/15, 30/30, 40/30, held
Bondarenko serving 1-3: 15/0, 15/15, 30/30, 30/40 (BP), 40/40, ad Bondarenko, Deuce #2, ad Nicole (BP #2), broken.

Unlike yesterday, Nicole is going through her opponent like a hot knife through butter. That was a very important game for Bondarenko to hold, and she couldn't do it. I don't think it's going to be like the French Open quarter-finals, where Nicole lost the first set to Venus Williams after being *4-1 up!

Nicole serving 4-1: 40/0 -> 40/40, ad Nicole, held.

Losing serve from 40/0 up could have been a psychological blow against Nicole, though I don't sense much resistance from Bondarenko in this match.

Bondarenko serving to stay in the first set at 1-5: 0/30, 15/30... 30/40 (SP), Nicole won the first set 6-1 at 18:37 (22m).

Second Set:
VAIDIŠOVÁ *@* *@* 6
BONDARENK ___*___ 1

Nicole serving 0-0: 15/15, 40/15, held.
Bondarenko serving 0-1: 0/30, 15/30, 15/40 (2 BPs), broken.

At last BBCi have realised that they're showing Sanguinetti v Ancic as well as BBC 2, but they're showing Kuznetsova v Peschke now - well I suppose I can't blame them for prioritising ranking over attractiveness and excitement to watch, though I do expect Nicole to surpass Kuznetsova in her career...

Nicole serving 2-0: 0/15, 15/30, 40/30, held.

Another good recovery by Nicole. This will stand her in good stead for the much tougher challenges ahead...

Bondarenko serving 0-3: 0/15, 40/15 -> 40/40, ad Nicole (BP), Deuce #2, ad Bondarenko, held.
Nicole serving 3-1: held to love.
Bondarenko serving 1-4: 0/40 (3 BPs), broken.
Nicole serving for the match at 5-1: 40/0 (3 MPs), Nicole won 6-1 6-1 at 19:04 (49m).

----------------
Third-round draw
----------------

* AMÉLIE MAURESMO [1] v Nicole Pratt [Q] (anyone but Mauresmo!)
* ANA IVANOVIC [19] v DINARA SAFINA [14] (ajde Ana!)
* ANASTASIA MYSKINA [9] v ANABEL MEDINA GARRIGUES [23] (davai Anastasia!)
* JELENA JANKOVIC [26] v VENUS WILLIAMS [6]

* MARIA SHARAPOVA [4] v Amy Frazier (DAVAI MARIA!!)
* Peng,Shuai v FLAVIA PENNETTA [16] (both nice; my loyalty is to Flavia)
* Shenay Perry v Sybille Bammer
* ELENA LIKHOVTSEVA [25] v ELENA DEMENTIEVA [7] (my loyalty is to Elena L)

* Séverine Brémond [Q] v GISELA DULKO [31] (both nice; my loyalty is to Gisela)
* SUGIYAMA,AI [18] v MARTINA HINGIS [12]
* DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ [15] v KATARINA SREBOTNIK [21] (both nice; my loyalty is to DANIELA!)
* ANNA CHAKVETADZE [30] v JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE [3] (davai Anna!)

* SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA [5] v LI,NA [27]
* NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10] v Karolina Šprem (both nice; my loyalty is to NICOLE!)
* Agnieszka Radwanska [WC] v Tamarine Tanasugarn [Q]
* Zheng,Jie v KIM CLIJSTERS [2]

Karolina Šprem is a player who goes for broke on every shot, and a very attractive girl. It's going to be a very exciting match to watch, and I really hope that the BBC will make up for their total lack of Nicole-coverage so far this Wimbledon, and show it!

----------------------------
Women's Doubles: First round
----------------------------

+ Nicole Vaidišová/Maureen Drake d. Marta Domachowska/Martina Suchá, 6-4 6-4

------------------------
Order of play for Friday
------------------------

Court One (start 13:00 BST = 12:00 GMT)
1. MS 2r: LLEYTON HEWITT [6] v Lee,Hyung-Taik (2:2 to finish)
2. MS 3r: ROGER FEDERER [1] v Nicolas Mahut
3. MS 3r: TOMMY HAAS [19] v TOMÁŠ BERDYCH [13]
4. WS 3r: Karolina Šprem v NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10]

This could be a bad time for my chances of seeing Nicole v Karolina on the BBC. If it will after 20:00 BST, and they're still showing athletics on Freeview-channel 301, then there'll only be one channel left for tennis at that time.

Third round: Karolina Šprem

=================
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Wimbledon, England; grass; Grand Slam)
================= http://www.wimbledon.org/
Third round
-----------

+ NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10] d. Karolina Šprem, 7-5 7-5

The match started at 19:44 BST on Court 2 (having been moved from Court One when Berdych v Haas went to a fifth set), but BBC 2 was about to close down, BBC 1 and Freeview 301 had already closed down, and Freeview 302 was showing Berdych v Haas, so I had to settle for live scores at www.wimbledon.org.

First Set:
VAIDI * * *__@* *@ 7
ŠPREM _* * *@__*__ 5

Nicole serving 0-0: 15/0... held.
Karolina serving 0-1: held to love.
Nicole serving 1-1: held to love.
Karolina serving 1-2: 15/0, 30/15, 40/15, held.

Another serve-dominated match, like Nicole's first round (7-5 7-5 over Klára Koukalová).

Nicole serving 2-2: 40/15, held.
Karolina serving 2-3: 40/0, 40/15, held.
Nicole serving 3-3: 0/15, 40/15 -> 40/40, ad Karolina (BP), broken.

A major psychological blow against Nicole to drop serve from 40/15 up, and with the ease with which Karolina has been holding serve so far, it's almost like she's lost the first set already.

Berdych v Haas (Court One) has just finished, but BBCi are now showing Ancic v Wawrinka (Centre Court) on their one remaining channel! So if Nicole loses this match before Ancic v Wawrinka (currently at the start of the second set) has finished, the BBC won't have televised a single point of her this Wimbledon. It beggars belief that they have totally ignored her first-week campaign, and showed so little women's tennis in general on BBCi.

I am extremely disappointed and angry that they don't deign to televise this mouthwatering match, just because it was scheduled so late in the day.

Karolina serving 4-3: 15/0, 15/40 (2 BPs), broken.

Great champions break back immediately!
And this is where the advantage of serving first comes into play.

Nicole serving 4-4: 15/0... held.
Karolina serving to stay in the first set at 4-5: 30/0, 40/15, held.
Nicole serving 5-5: 15/15, 40/15, held.
Karolina serving to stay in the first set at 5-6: 15/0, 15/30... Nicole won the first set 7-5 at 20:20.

The good news is that there's talk of Wawrinka v Ancic (the match currently on Freeview 302) being suspended for bad light, so I may yet see the end of this match after that suspension, or tomorrow if this too is suspended. Then again, given the BBC's behaviour so far, they'll probably just close Freeview 302 down after Wawrinka v Ancic...

This match's best chance of televisation is if Karolina can take it to three sets and get it suspended for failing light (the absolute latest time before it's too dark to play is about 21:30, but they usually suspend matches at the end of a set).

So the worst-case scenario for Nicole's chances of getting televised on Freeview BBC this Wimbledon would be if she retired injured in the second set. Even if Karolina wins the second set in 20 minutes, I can't see them starting a third set tonight.

Second Set:
VAIDI * * * * * *@ 7
ŠPREM _* * * * *__ 5

Nicole serving 0-0: held to love.
Karolina serving 0-1: 30/0, 30/15, 40/30, held.
Nicole serving 1-1: 30/0, 40/15, held.
Karolina serving 1-2: 0/15, 15/15, 30/15... held.

Credit to Karolina for hanging in here. Because she's a very inconsistent player, I kind of expected her to crack after losing that first set, but she's continuing to make Nicole work hard, with significant doubt remaining over who will emerge victorious (I give Nicole a 75-80% chance, because it feels like each set is almost 50/50).

Nicole serving 2-2: 15/0, 30/15, 40/15, held.
Karolina serving 2-3: 0/15, 15/30, 30/30, 40/30, 40/40, ad Nicole (BP), Deuce #2, ad Nicole (BP), Deuce #3, ad Karolina, held.

Those were virtual match-points for Nicole, given that she's dropped serve only once in this match. But instead of pulling clear at 7-5 4-2, she's in the heart of battle at 3-3. It's vitally important for Nicole's chances in this set that she recovers from that disappointment by holding serve in the next game.

Nicole serving 3-3: 15/15, 40/15, held.
Karolina serving 3-4: held in a single scoreboard-update.
Nicole serving 4-4: 15/0, 30/15, 40/15, held.

The moment of truth for Karolina's Wimbledon-campaign...

Karolina serving to stay in the match at 4-5: 0/15, 30/15, 30/30, 30/40 (MP), 40/40, ad Karolina, Deuce #2, ad Nicole (MP #2), Deuce #3, ad Nicole (MP #3), Deuce #4, ad Nicole (MP #4), Deuce #5, ad Karolina, held.

Very important for Nicole to stay in the now, and not dwell on those four match-points (possibly more, given the speed that the scoreboard was updating). She won't sleep well if this match is suspended at one set all.

Nicole serving 5-5: 30/15, 30/30, 40/30, held.
Karolina serving to stay in the match at 5-6: 0/40 (3 MPs), Nicole won 7-5 7-5 at 21:11, just as Freeview-channel 302 closed down without even mentioning her.

At least Nicole lives to fight another day for televisation, and her first- and third-round matches, both 7-5 7-5, may have helped to prepare her for similar tight situations that I hope to see her (on TV!) in against the top players next week.

Positive memories of tight situations are very important for the next time you find yourself in them, while negative memories (such as the French Open semi-final choke) can be very destructive.

-----------------
Fourth-round draw
-----------------

* ANA IVANOVIC [19] v AMÉLIE MAURESMO [1] (ajde Ana!)
* ANASTASIA MYSKINA [9] v JELENA JANKOVIC [26] (davai Anastasia!)
* MARIA SHARAPOVA [4] v FLAVIA PENNETTA [16] (both nice; my loyalty is to MARIA!)
* ELENA DEMENTIEVA [7] v Shenay Perry (davai Elena!)

* Séverine Brémond [Q] v SUGIYAMA,AI [18] (allez Séverine!)
* DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ [15] v JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE [3] (PODME DANIELA!!)
* NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10] v LI,NA [27] (PODME NICOLE!!)
* Agnieszka Radwanska [WC] v KIM CLIJSTERS [2] (dawaj Agnieszka!)

I had been dreading a fourth-round meeting with Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Nicole in three sets in both 3r Wimbledon 2005 and sf French Open 2006, but Li,Na did the job for her, taking advantage of Kuznetsova's 10:24 W:UE ratio to beat her 3-6 6-2 6-3.

Li has been in impressive form so far, beating Virginie Razzano 6-2 6-0 and Meilen Tu 6-2 6-4 before Kuznetsova. But she'll have to step it up against Nicole, and when she tried to do that against Maria Sharapova at Birmingham, she did hit a lot of winners, but ended up gift-wrapping Maria's victory with a slew of unforced errors.

-----------------------------
Women's Doubles: Second round
-----------------------------

- Nicole Vaidišová/Maureen Drake lt. LISA RAYMOND/SAMANTHA STOSUR [1], 4-6 2-6

------------------------
Order of play for Monday
------------------------

Court 3 (start 12:00 BST = 11:00 GMT)
1. WS 4r: Shenay Perry v ELENA DEMENTIEVA [7]
2. WS 4r: LI,NA [27] v NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10]
3. MS 4r: DMITRY TURSUNOV [27] v JARKKO NIEMINEN [22]
(followed by mixed doubles)

I've got a bad feeling that Nicole-fans with Freeview BBCi may well remain disappointed that we haven't seen a single point of her this Wimbledon.

Fourth round: Li,Na

=================
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Wimbledon, England; grass; Grand Slam)
================= http://www.wimbledon.org/
Fourth round (Monday 3rd July)
------------

- NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [10] lt. LI,NA [27], 6-4 1-6 3-6

A very disappointing loss for Nicole, to lose to a lesser seed in the fourth round of a Grand Slam. She broke in the opening game of the match, but never again - and what went wrong in the second set?

I just don't think Nicole is comfortable on grass yet, with its uneven low bounces. I think it was a mistake to skip Eastbourne, as she might have benefited from some extra experience on grass. She certainly has the weapons to conquer Wimbledon one day, but hard courts are her favourite surface.

The match started just before 13:20 BST, and once again it wasn't shown on BBCi. But this time they had two very good excuses: Sharapova v Pennetta and Hantuchová v Henin-Hardenne! And these are my excuses for not following Nicole's live scores point by point this time.

First Set:
VA @* * * * * 6
LI __* * * *_ 4

Nicole won the first set 6-4 at 13:56.

Second Set:
VA _____*_ 1
LI *@*@* * 6

Li won the second set 6-1 at 14:22, and the third set didn't start until 14:28.

Third Set:
VA * *___*__ 3
LI _* *@* *@ 6

Now Daniela's match has finished and Maria's has nearly finished, so I can go into point-by-point mode for following Nicole's scores.

Nicole serving 0-0: 0/15, 40/15, held.
Li serving 0-1: 15/0... held.
Nicole serving 1-1: 0/15, 15/15, 15/30, 40/30, 40/40, ad Nicole, Deuce #2, ad Nicole, held.

Now Maria's match is over, and BBCi are showing Hewitt v Ferrer on both BBC 2 and Freeview 302 instead of joining this match to give us maximum choice!

Li serving 1-2: 0/15, 15/30, 30/30, 40/30, held.

It's so frustrating that Nicole can't break Li since the very first game of the match.

Nicole serving 2-2: 15/0, 30/15, 30/30... broken.

Now BBCi are showing Clijsters v Radwanska warming up. Honestly, what's the point of showing that match from the start when this could be Freeview viewers' last chance to see Nicole for the first time this Wimbledon!

Li serving 3-2: 0/30, 15/30, 30/40 (BP), 40/40, ad Li, held.

And still Nicole can't buy a break of serve. I'm already thinking that her best chance may come with Li serving for a place in the quarter-finals at 5-4, because that's always much more difficult than an ordinary service-game.

Nicole serving 2-4: 0/15, 40/15, held.
Li serving 4-3: 30/0 -> 30/30, 40/30, 40/40, ad Li, held.
Nicole serving to stay in the match at 3-5: 30/0 -> 30/40 (MP), Li won the match 4-6 6- 6-3 at 15:02.

I've never had a member of my Eternal Fanship get through to the fourth round of Wimbledon and not be televised at all - not even before I got my Freeview-box in 2004. It's just as well that I didn't wait for Wimbledon to induct Nicole into my Eternal Fanship, and all I can say is that I look forward to watching her in future Wimbledons (provided she avoids as dramatic a slump as those suffered by Iva Majoli, Iroda Tulyaganova and Jelena Dokic in their early 20s).

They did at least show the final point: Nicole served out wide, then netted a forehand off Li's return.

Andrew's first-round TV-report

=================
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Wimbledon, England; grass; Grand Slam)
=================

I have finally got round to doing my extended reports of Nicole's Wimbledon 2006 campaign, where I go through my DVDs with a fine pause-key, writing up a detailed description of every point!

I'm well aware that Wimbledon 2006 was over two years ago, but it was not possible for me to do Nicole's TV-reports back in 2006, due to the BBC completely ignoring her at that Wimbledon. But now I have acquired Australian Fox Sports' coverage of her first- and third-round matches on DVD from Tennis Videos International.

So I now present the first match I have written up: Nicole's first-round win over Klára Koukalová (now Zakopalová):
http://geocities.com/andrewbroad/ten...ledon2006.html

I have also uploaded my scoreboard-report of Nicole's second-round win over Kateryna Bondarenko, which those of you who read my Wimbledon 2006 reports at the time will have already read.

I'll be uploading my TV-report of Nicole's third-round match against Karolina Šprem in two weeks' time, and then I'll be reporting on the Olympic tennis-event as it happens, and going back to bring you my Birmingham and Eastbourne eyewitness reports and photos, and my Wimbledon 2008 full TV-reports.
