Roland Garros beginning on a Sunday
I have just opened my TV and there's Safina vs Zvonareva live on Eurosport. Perhaps I'm getting old and my memory is not what it once was, but RG starts on a Sunday? Isn't it supposed to begin on Monday?

The main reason to make money since more people can attend matches during the sunday than a weekday. Another reason was to give some flexibility if it would happen to rain.

if they really wanted to do that........ they'd have scheduled more than just 3 courts.

I was just telling what the official statement of this was. Surely they could have scheduled more than 3 courts but I guess there's a reason for everything.
Actually they're using other courts for practise. E g Golovin is hitting with Dementieva on one of the courts they could have scheduled to play at this moment.

Chatrier and Lenglen are sold out for today. Maybe people will show up by the time Mauresmo and Sharapova are playing.
