Re: Julia Glushko
Second Round:
(Q) Sarah GRONERT (GER) defeated (Q) Julia GLUSHKO (ISR) 6-2 2-6 6-4
That was a good opportunity to gain some points, she doesn't play 25K too often.
Notes:
1. Julia won easily two qualifying rounds to get into the main draw. Keren won one and lost the second convincingly.
2. Only one seeded player made it to the QF - uncommon occurence in any level.

Huge win for Julia today in $25,000 ITF in Szczecin, Poland.
(Q)Julia Glushko (ISR) def. (3)Tina Schiechtl (AUT) 63 26 76(2)
Tina is ranked #237 in the world and I believe that Julia has never beaten anyone ranked this high before today.

At least in a rated match, it is (#110 Obziler, ISR ch. SF 2006).
The way in which the win was achieved is very important. Finally a big win for her in a close match.
She also won her last qualifying match 7-6(7) 2-6 6-4 against a top-500 (former top-300) local player, who BTW is also into the 2nd round as a LL.
This is another big step after the 10K win last October.
It will also put her in about #600

Re: Julia Glushko
The great run comes to an end against one of the most talented locals:
Katarzyna Piter def. Julia Glushko 6-7 6-3 6-2.
A very good week, she should play more 25Ks.

Re: Julia Glushko
I'm surprised no-one mentioned her qualifying into a 50K main draw with 3 solid wins two weeks ago. Too bad she got such a tough draw there (Voracova), but a good experience.
It has to be said that most of her results since the breakthrough week in Szczecin in May were not good.

As she's still eligible to play Juniors (by 4 days ), I don't know if she will indeed make 2008 her first full year on tour. Maybe it will only be next year. As far as I know, she has aspirations of becoming a pro.
Another question in this regard is the financial issue (which I have no idea if it's an issue in her case). Players in that stage of their careers spend much more money (filghts, hotels, coaching, equipment etc.) that they can win in small ITFs. Not everyone can afford it for a long time. Dudi e.g. was close to retirement because of this, Tzipi also had trouble with sponsorship even when she was in the top 200.

That didn't take too long.
Does anyone know what's in store for her in the upcoming month?

Re: Julia Glushko
While all of us were into the Olympics, that didn't bode all too well as far as Israeli tennis is concerned, Julia recorded last week the best tournament yet of her promising, upcoming career, a semifinal at a 50K in Russia, including her first top-200 win. All her matches were tight three-setters against higher rated opponents.
The event added nearly 50% to her ranking points and moved her 80 places up, very close to the top 400 in the world.

That's the best news regarding Israeli players (except 1st round wins for Dudi) in weeks.
