P.S. are 4 qualifying rounds for a small tourney common? She even lost the opening set in one of them before advancing quite comfortably.
I found those many qulies also strange.( but I'm no specialist to judge this)

Her second round game is vs another qualifier, LITVAK, Lena (USA),ranked 961. She won her first round match vs a French girl ranked 485, which shows she's in pretty good shape.
Not as easy for Julia as it looks like.
Again, let's cross our fingers.

Re: Julia Glushko

Julia lost 7-5 6-7 3-6.
bad luck, she had MP in the breaker and probably after not winning it got broken mentally. Though she said that she feel like she is in good shape, I hope to see her winning more now...

You're right.
No doubt she has great potential.
What she needs now is consistency.

Re: Julia Glushko

Julia continued to a 2nd 10K in Portugal where she is seeded 6 in Qualies and pased 3 rounds already (one with bye) and she will now have to win to get into the MD against a Brit ranked below 1000.

I felt my answer belongs in this thread
I'm willing to bet Julia makes it to the top 300. Much higher than that - too early to say, but top 300 - yes.

Re: Julia Glushko

Let me state the obvious: she has to play. And by that I mean at least 20 tournaments a year. When she does that, she'll be #500 even at her current level of play - I don't think that there's any question she's more talented than Shlomo, and she almost got there last year in her first full season (although Keren got some cheap points in 25000$ ITFs in Nigeria late 2006, which were weaker than most western 10000$ tourneys).
As she's still eligible to play Juniors (by 4 days ), I don't know if she will indeed make 2008 her first full year on tour. Maybe it will only be next year. As far as I know, she has aspirations of becoming a pro.

Another question in this regard is the financial issue (which I have no idea if it's an issue in her case). Players in that stage of their careers spend much more money (filghts, hotels, coaching, equipment etc.) that they can win in small ITFs. Not everyone can afford it for a long time. Dudi e.g. was close to retirement because of this, Tzipi also had trouble with sponsorship even when she was in the top 200.

Another close 3 set loss
Sure it's somewhat unlucky to be ranked 9th in a 8-seed tourney and get the 3rd seed in the opening round, but on the other hand her opponent is 25, obviously an eternal small ITFs player, and I thought she should win. Getting some unranked 16 y.o. isn't necessarily a better draw.

You're right, but draw is a draw, and this is exactly the kind of matches she should have won..
So close...
