Last time she got through the opening round it was 3 weeks ago against the same (higher ranked) player, and she went all the way. Let's hope there will be a repeat

Re: Julia Glushko

Here is an article on Julia :

26 Oct 2010 - Akko, Israel - Nick Fishpoo;

Glushko in Akko title haul

A tough singles semifinal aside, Israel’s Julia Glushko swept aside all who opposed her on court as she secured both the singles and doubles titles in Akko last week without loss of a set.

This $10,000 tournament on the ITF Pro Circuit saw the Israeli Fed Cup player, named the No. 1 seed in both events, claim both titles at the same tournament for the first time in her professional career.

- Singles Finalists
- Julia Glushko
- Julia Kimmelman

I hope she can make it into the qualy draw in Australia!!!!!

This has to be her biggest win ever. Has there been some spurt in talent improvement?

Well, on paper at least this is the highest ranked player she has ever beat, so in that sense it is her biggest win ever.
Since none of us watched the match, it's difficult for us to say if this win was more about the retirement or about a high level of play from Julia.
Julia certainly seems to attribute the win in large part to the way she played.
She said today (from an Israeli sports news site): "I played really well, the first set was a very tight contest, and in the second my opponent had difficulties. I played my game from the start. I was aggressive and positive and I hope to continue this way in the final".

In recent weeks, and today as well, there's talk from her and her camp of a fundamental change she has been undergoing.
From today's interview with her coach: "Julia has been playing a more mature tennis for a while. She understands it's important to play her own kind of tennis and not to try to force things.
I have no doubt that this win and the results she's been having lately are a result of a long way Julia has gone since we began to work together. A way that includes investment and hard work on a daily basis. Julia proved to herself she can beat top players. Still, things should be viewed with the proper perspective and she should step by step try to improve from match to match."

from afar it does seem there's some change in attitude and maybe more, but as you wrote earlier, she has to be more consistent for this to be felt more.

Re: Julia Glushko

I wonder, does this victory(50 points) put Julia within shouting distance of being in the Australian Open Qualifiers?

Re: Julia Glushko

Again, the manner in which she won this title is very impressive, following her first top-100 (and top-50) win by winning a final that was huge for her and in which she was behind throughout

6-4 4-1 is for real
It's not her fault her opponent retired, and it's not like it was 3-2 ret., she was a set and a break or two up, and had her opponent played on for a few more minutes the retirement talk wouldn't be here.

Shir mentioned last page that last year the cut-off was #218, she's going to reach a career-high of about #240 but still 40 points short of that, but she also noted usually the cut-off is even lower, so she might make it anyway.

Edit: even before this title, the WTA site shows she's #4 in the 2011 Race

Re: Julia Glushko

Julia won her 1st round match in doubles at Bendigo 25k:
Calderwood/Glushko (AUS/ISR) d. Botto/Werner (PER/GER) 62 63

Apparently tomorrow there's going to be live stream of her 1R singles match against 7th seed Jessica Moore at http://live.tennis.com.au/pro-tour/
The match is supposed to be the first in central court starting at 10:00 local time.

Good luck
