Nice to see psotive words about my country for once...we have a host of faults, but at the end of the day, there are plenty worse places.
Not a glowing endorsement...but anyway...we don't quite deserve the flak we always get, and indeed give ourselves.

Phil "The Power" Taylor... "The Greatest Ever English Sportsman" (not my quote, but Sid Waddell's)
Isn't that Dennis Priestly in the centre too?
Kisha... is putting "Romeo" and "talent" in one sentence a laugh? Come on...
Anyway... I'd like to contribute to this thread as I'm really chuffed to be British (well, an Englishman), I mean where else could invent something as ingenious as Black Pudding? (which I used to love... until I found out what it was and have never eaten it since, me nan always used to get it me from Jerry Howarth's butchers (officially the best Black Pudding maker in the world), me dad told me what it was and... well... it's a delicacy but, no, no more for me thanks).
Okay, great British things...
Alton Towers
The Millennium Wheel (not Dome, that was a complete mess)
Stonehenge (no I don't understand it either, but it's weird, therefore it's good)
The Peak District (good for walking and picnics and country pubs and it's near me)
Wimbledon
Pride Park Stadium

And the god that is Jeff Stelling on the left
Sid Waddell is a genius too, his comments are unmatchable

Callling it the UK clouds the picture somewhat, but as for mainland Britian itself...its not a great country, but it is a decent one, and amidst all the problems there are things to be proud of...
Good things...
* Beneath a stuffy veneer, actually a far more socially liberal country than its given credit for.
*It rains but that makes things green! Other countires have to be artifiically watered 24/7, its natural here!
* More than our fair share of great writers, inventors, actors...
* Birthplace of many of the worlds most popular sports...
* Home of the most widely spoken language in history
* Home of much of the worlds best popular music across the decades.
* Home of some of the worlds great most famous soccer teams, like Manchester United, Liverpool, and ummm Manchester City.

* A nation that likes the underdog.
* Made a vital stand in World War 2.
* Agnostic attitude to religion, you can believe what you want, or don't want, and few people will raise an eyebrow here.
None of this make us particularly special, but I do feel we shouldn't always feel defensive about our Britishness, make fun of ourselves. Nobody else is gonna say anything good about us, so maybe we should once in a while...
