Oy, she felds 2-6 6-2 5-7 in the end. Quite a shame she was broken quite easily after 2 really close returning games, looks like frustration got to her and she just lost focus. She missed more than 5 BPs for *5-3 so that's quite frustrating.: tears:
But you have to look at the positives, she managed to qualify and nearly beat a Top 100 player in R1. Congrats on this, Katya! She's definitely stepping up with every tournament that she plays. She was a bit huffing & puffing after rallies, but it's only been a few months since she's back, it's quite normal she's still tested on the stamina I guess. Plus this was by far the most competitive match she's played in A LONG TIME.
She was so close today. A WTA MD win here would have been so good. But she put up a good fight against someone just outside the top 100, especially considering she only started playing again in April. She had a couple of 3 sets matches which she lost, but it will only be a matter of time she will start winning those. I can imagine after being out for so long she needs to adjust to these type of situations again. It can be just a couple of points that decide the match. She needs to play more of these matches and she will be fine. She seems to be on the right track
