It may imply that tennis players are part of this big brotherhood as members of the French or International Federation, even though they are alone on the tennis court

In French 'double bagels' are translated as 'double wheels' (of bicycle), so after the ladies sf of the French 84, the magazine 'Tennis de France' reported that 'Camille Benjamin entra sur le court central pour affronter Chris Evert et s'en repartit à bicyclette aprés 39 minutes...' Camille Benjamin came on central court to play Chris Evert and left on her bike after only 39 mns....

How witty!
As we call it in Spanish too:bicicleta (bycicle) the wheels being the zeros
And in men's tour it's called triciclo (a 3-wheel vehicle for kids)

It's fair, only if you also consider that Sabatini was still 16 then

Witty if it is your own creation.....like Bud's pants or is this just bad taste?
he is FAMOUS for his bad pants!! he wears them on every semi-big occasion. no 'specific' pants, mind you, but some loud crazy pattern with a clashing color shirt!

that always seemed to bug miss evert, with her attraction for symmetry and cohesion.

Daze, your story reminds me a Pam Shriver quote. The first time Bud Collins went to interview her she said, "Sure, but can you turn off those pants first?"

And perhaps the most infamous grand slam double bagel in modern times was the 88 French final when Steffi spent 32 minutes in court time dealing with Zvereva.
That was such a shame for Camille. She had fought so hard during those two weeks only to have nothing against Evert in the semis. But those groundstrokes of hers

Camille was definitely an original.

How did she hit them? The only thing I recall were her Erkel-like glasses.

A big for the picture Tommystar!

There was a funny US TV show with a character named "Urkel". Camille could be a double for him.

Mr. Urkel Himself
