Re: Australian Open Singles

Hi folks adn especially our Aussie researchers:

In incorporating the 1952 Australian Open draw into the 1952 thread I crosschecked what Andrew Tas posted (8 years ago!!!) with what Wikipedia has. I added some first names where that was the only discrepancy, but I came up with these 4 more major discrepancies:

Andrew has: Wikipedia has:

J. Diggle ----- Dorothy
H. O’Donnell ----- Margaret
I. Olcrenshaw ----- Jill Olerenshaw
J. Marlin ----- Joyce Martin

Any knowledge or opinions??
Thanks

Hello. Wow 8 years ago. How time gets away. I can confirm that Wikipedia is correct on all counts. Jill Olerenshaw's maiden name though is Tuckfield (Husband's first name is Ian).

Thanks Andrew Tas. I edited this into the Slam section and used this to fill in some missing first names from other slam draws.

Re: Australian Open Singles

There's problems here.

Tommasi has listed 8 seeds for 1934 and 1939 and in other years there are differences in his lists.

Are we to assume he's wrong?

Hmmm. I don't want to assume anything. I'm going to proceed with caution until we clear these up. Now that we have access to Aussie newspapers perhaps they can confirm the seeds?

I added the 1940 seeds today.

Re: Australian Open Singles

Well, Chris, I didn't make up my lists of seeded players. They all came from Australian newspapers. I've added the references. You can look them up at:

http://newspapers.nla.gov.au

Use search terms tennis+Australia+seed. Then, limit the results to January of each year and exclude advertisements.
