I'm pretty sure they abolished protected ranking altogether, because it caused so much confusion, but I may be wrong.
Regardless of whether or not Capriati gets the Gold Exempt list, she won't have any problem getting wildcards. She's a big draw, she doesn't withdraw very often, and she used to be world #1, has 3 grandslam titles to her name, and is perennially a top 10 player (when healthy).

Capriati has three GS singles titles, which is one of the criteria for 'Gold Emeritus' status. That status is something you have to apply for, so she doesn't actually have it, as far as I know.
Interestingly, Special ranking can only be used for entry, not for seeding. SO she's going to be unseeded for quite q while, making for some interesting first round matches. This all assumes she'll return, natch.

They abolished the Special Seeding that used to accompany an IPR after '04. (Thus Kim was seeded like a #133 player @ IW last March, but still had the right to enter the MD with her IPR).

Jenny will be able to get wildcards whevever she wants to play which is a good thing, there could be some very interesting early round matches with her not having a special seeding.

Kim didn't have an Injury protected Ranking, because she wasn't out for full six months. She returned earlier.
The deadline for IW and Miami enterance was in January/february, and she was around 30-40s at that time. She was given a WC to Warsaw, btw, because she was around 130s at the enterance date.
Justine had IPR, but she never had to use it, ironically.
