Who was the last player to win a WTA event as an amatuer in the Open era?

Does anyone know? I know several amatuers have won Satellite and Challenger events but I have not been able to find any results on the WTA tour.

Thanks for any info

Well, Shuai is still an amateur (as written on wtatour.com) but she hasn't won any WTA event

peshke is an amutuer at the moment - but she won't be for the 2006 season.
hingis will eb an amuteur this season.
it has nothing to do with your level of play - it regards prize money from the previous two years (i think you need to earn over 40K to be considered pro)

thats got nothing to do with being a pro or not
that 40k just entitles you to being a FULL Member of the Tour which gives you certain benefits as well as not paying the $150 Entry Fee for each event. (Associate Members also dont pay entry fees and get lesser benefits)

Jakeev-I guess it depends on what you would count a WTA tour level event as.

Tracy Austin didn't turn pro until Stuttgart in late 1978, before that she had won a Futures event, which would be a tier 4 or 5 today.

There were probably others after that. Caroline Stoll for example, and I'm not sure when Anfrea Jaeger turned pro. pam Shriver may also have been an amateur when she won a Futures event in 1978.

I think Margaret Court's first ever tournament win was at the Aussie in 1960-I'll double check that.
