5.Jill Craybas (56) -1

6.Laura Granville (60)
7.Meghann Shaughnessy (64)
8.Lisa Raymond (71) +1
9.Mashona Washington (73) -1

17.Bethanie Mattek (123) -3
18.Angela Haynes (133) -2
19. Asha Rolle (166) NEW ENTRY

20.Vania King (162)

Lindsay Lee is the best progression in the US Top 20, breaking the Top 15...just because of the new ranking system (she's up 14 places in the world ranking with 27 tournements played in a year!)
In the other hand, Shenay Perry is down 4 spots at n15 (she only played 18
tournements).
Lilia Osterloh continues her rise (2 more places eraned ...with 28 tournements in a year)...and Bethanie Mattek is falling from 3 spots (only 17 tournements).
Angela Haynes is also falling in the Top 20 due to a bad ending season in 2005 (familial tragedy...)
A new entry in the Top 20 with Asha Rolle who reached the semi final in Palm Beach Gardens Challenger ($50k) in December.

20.Jessica Kirkland (184) NEW ENTRY

No change in the national Top 3...but big changes in the world ranking as Lindsay Davenport lost her crown as Best Player in the world and Serena Williams slump at n37!
Laura Granville is up 2 places in the ranking and back in the world Top 50 with a good australian Campaign (2nd round in Auckland, Quater Final in Hobart and 3rd round in the Australian Open).
Ashley Harkleroad continues her come back breaking the national Top 10 (at n9) and the world Top 100 (at n83). 2 good results for Ashley (2nd round in Auckland and Australian Open after qualifying).
A lot of ranking movements from the n12 to n19 but no significant results (Bethanie Mattek is up 5 places with nearly the same world ranking as last month).
Special cheering for Vania King, the most youngest to be ranked in the Top 20, she's up 3 spots this month, breaking the world Top 150...
A new entry for Jessica Kirkland who was runner up last week in Waikoloa $50K challenger ousting n1 seed/n126 Edina Gallovits in the Semis. Jessica's best world ranking was n151 in march 2005.

Congrats to Amy who is up 3 spots in the national ranking and back on the world top 50 at the age of 33 !In february she reached Memphis Tier III $175K semi final falling to eventual champion and 3rd seed/n47 Sofia Arvidsson.
Serena continues to fall in the world ranking out of the world Top 50 now!! and down 3 places in the national ranking .
Good month for Shenay Perry who is up 3 places at n11 and back in the world top 100 after her victory at Las Vega $75K challenger.
The biggest progression of the month is to up coming talent Vania King (+4 and closed to break the Top 100! ). She reached her 1rst ever WTA Tour semi final at Bangalore Tier III $175K.

However, this is unacceptable stats for such a big nation as the United States: only 3 girls in the Top 50 and a pretty old players such as Lindsay, Amy, Laura, Jill and Lisa (all in the top 10). The only refreshing news is coming from Vania who is improving quickly as a teenage.

20.Tiffany Dabek (189)/NEW ENTRY

No change in the national ranking lead of course with Lindsay and venus still in the world top 10.
Jill is up 2 places and back in the world Top 50 after a very good run in Miami whereshe creates one of the biggest upset ousting world n2 Kim Klijters. Giving her confidence to play great tennis to beat n29 Klara Koukalova before loosing to Jie Zheng.
Good ranking evolution for Jamae too who is up 2 places in the national ranking and 8 in the world ranking and not fat away from her best (n73). She reached the 3rd round in Miami with a convincing victory over n28 Gisela Dulko before falling to Nadia Petrova.
Mashona Washington is back to the National Top 10 and 11 places up in the world ranking. 2 times in a row she made it to the 2nd round at Indian Wells (victory over n61 Maria Sanchez Lorenzo) and in Miami after qualifying.
One of the biggest slump of the months with Serena down 6 places in the national and 30 places in the world! Her main current motivation is not competing and she seems to prefer to show off on the premiere's event red carpet.
Vania and Bethanie doesn't move in the national ranking but keep improving: Vania already broke the world Top 100 and Bethanie is about to do it.
Marissa Irvin is the biggest slump of the months in the world ranking loosing 33 spots without playing (she lost her 2005 Miami points where she reached the 3rd round).
Angela is trying to come back with no real success right now loosing in the 1rst round of the qualies in Miami and Indian Wells. Maybe she should focusing on playing chalengers event like she did in Las Vegas last months.
Tiffany is the new entry of the month. She played a challenger in march reaching the quaterfinal loosing to n257 Kelly Liggan.

Another desapointing months for the american players. The top players are down a couple of places in the WR and the cut for the Top 20 is now closed to n200.
In the Top 10 NR, good news from Meghann who played pretty well in April Her 58 position in the Race proves that she's a little be underanked. At Amelia Island Tier I, Meghann reached the 3rd round ousting 16th seed/n31 french Bartoli en route before losing to Top seed/n7 Petrova. At Charleston Tier I, she was unlucky to play resurgent russian 2nd seed/n10 Kuznetsova in the 2nd round. However, dur to her very poor 2005 season, these results made her rise 10 places in the WR.
Jamea is keeping her 8th position in the NR but she's also up 10 spots in the WR reaching the 2nd round at Charleston Tier 1 with a victory over 15th seed/n36 Peschke before falling to erratic n90 Sprem.
Lisa in down 3 places in the NR and 11 on the WR despite a good victory over n39 indian star Mirza before losing to 2nd seed/n9 Schnyder at Amelia Island Tier I. AT Charleston Tier I, early exit against wc n303 Neha Uberoi!
Vania is definitively the only rising player of this Top 20. She broke the Top 100 for the 1rst time this month. At Indian Wells, she run to the 3rd round ousting 16th seed/n27 Koukalova before falling to talented chinese n70 Li. At Charleston, she performed a good victory over n57 Bammer before losing to 20th seed/n21 russian Kirilenko. Vania recorded her Best ranking (n90 this month).
Serena is now out of the Top 100...with no real declared intention to come back strongly within a couple of months. She's still on the spotlight..for partying!
No NR rising for Lilia but she's up 11 places after a SF at Dothan $75K where she lost to eventual champion 3rd seed/n111 Fedak.
Meilen is back to the world Top 120 and up 22 places (the best progression of the month) with good results on the WTA Tour. At Amelia Island, she reached the 2nd round of the qualies with a victory over 14th seed/n117 Birnerova before falling to 8th seed/n103 Savchuk. Much more convincing at Charleston Tier I, Meilen made it to the 2nd round of the main draw as a qualifer. In the qualies, she ousted 17th seed/n120 Bohmova and 13th seed/n128 Lepchenko. In the main draw, she beat compatriot n54 Frazier before losing to 3rd seed/n9 Schnyder.
Tiffany is up 2 spots in the NR especially because Marissa and Angela continue to slump in the WR. Marissa hasn't been playing since the beginning of the year. Angela tried to get confidence back competing in the ITF Tour but lost in the 2nd round at $25K Jackson vs qualifer n348 Melikishvili and vs 5th seed/n131 Osterloh at Dothan $75K in the 1rst rd.

Laura is taking the bronze medal this week, back in the WR Top 50 and 3rd in the USA. She played a challenger tournement in may and won it as Top seed.
Meghann continues to impress in her come back , she's now close to the world Top 50. She played 3 tournements. 1rst at Prague where she reached the 2nd rd falling to 6th seed/n57 Camerin. The week after, she captured her 4th title (and 1rst in over 3 years!) at Rabat with victories over 9th seed/n79 and 8th seed/n76 respectively in SF and in final. At least, she played Istanbul upsetting 3rd seed/n29 Chakvetadze before losing to n65 Yakimova.
Amy keeps slumping in the WR and NR...ot seems that she's closer and closer to the end of her career.
Bethanie is still on the way to break the Top 100! and she's overtaking Serena in the NR.
Sunitha is back to the National top 20! She reached the QF at Charlottesville $50K beating 4th seed/n138 Pooutchkova before falling to surprising runner up n396 Cibulkova.

No change at the top of the American Ranking. Lindsay is the n1 but the crisis in american tennis is growing up with no player in the Top 10 .

Meghann in back in the world Top 50 and americna n2 after a good summer where she reacehd the QF at Los Angeles (victories over n17 Dechy and n49 Vesnina), won Forest Hills (vicories over n45 Vesnina and n43 Dominguez Lino).

Jamea is the most impressive rise in the NR (+6). She performed her 1rst WTA tour final at Birmingham (wins over n36 Koukalova, n30 Jankovic, n29 Likhovtseva and n4 Sharapova!!). After that, she reached several times the 2nd rd of many tournements (San Diego, Montreal as a qualifer, and US Open). She broke the Top 50 for the 1rst time.

Meilen had also a breakthrough week at Birmingham reaching the Semi final (victories over n41 Mirza and n27 Bartoli) and made it to the 2nd rd at wimbledon and San diego (win n57 Granville). She's been reaching her best ranking for 3 years.

The biggest slump is for Mashona (-72 places in the WR) who won only 2 matches this summer and didn't play at the USO.
Venus and Laura also lost merely 30 places in the WR. Venus lost her wimbledon 2005 points as winner...losing in the 3rd round this year vs n29 Jankovic and didn't play since Wimbledon. As far sa Laura is concerned, excepted a 3rd rd at Montreal (victory over n27 Sugyama), she spent hard time on the american tour with pretty draw.

Ansley is one of the new entry of the summer. That former n90 in the world (3 years ago) won 2 ITF titles at Hammond $50K (wins over n134 Poutchek and n193 Perebiynis) and Vancouver $25K. At the USO she reached the final rd of the qualies (victories over n122 Gallovits and n186 Voracova).

Jessica is the 2nd to come back in the top 20...more because the Top 20 is lower than 3 months ago than because of her results. She reached the quater final at Grado $25K and won a coule of mathes in the qualies of 2 bog tournements (2nd rd of the qualies at Stanford beating n90 Tu and at san Diego).
