Fed Cup Qualifying Seed News - Sweden discriminated against!!
Seeds Named For Cup Play Offs
Fed Cup first-round losers the United States, Russia, Argentina and Australia were among seeded nations named ahead of Friday's draw for the World Group play offs.
They are joined by the Czech Republic, Japan, Slovenia and Switzerland as seeds for the July clashes.
The eight seeds will be drawn against Canada, China, Colombia, Hungary, Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden and Ukraine at the ITF's London headquarters.
The criteria for seeding, used by the Fed Cup Committee, includes the rankings of players likely to participate, experience on different surfaces, past performances in the competition and experience in doubles.
The Fed Cup World Group play-offs will be played on July 20-21, the same weekend as the World Group quarter-finals.
The winning nations in the play offs will secure places in the 2003 World Group, while the losing nations will compete in their respective regional qualifying competitions.
***This sucks, Sweden should be seeded 8th, it should be that the 8 qualifying winners play the 8 World group losers however this is not the case! Sweden has not been seeded meaning that they could face USA in the qualifying tie. sure Japan might have higher ranked players and are more likely to win but Sweden earnt the right to have the seeding advantage as they had been in the world group

Hungary also should have been seeded, but are left out with Slovenia getting a seed.
Hopefully Canada gets a decent opponent  |

In some It will all depend on the place the ties are played.
I don't think Japan has many chances on the hungarian or colombian clay and Holland can be really dangerous on grass.
And of course if the czechs keep having the kind of team they sent to Croatia they will have many troubles...

Hopefully, we don't get Colombia or Israel. China is also not nice. But either of these ties is fine as long as it is in Russia. Canada would be perfect, because it is the only guaranteed home tie. In any other case it will be drawn who'll be hosts.
