The US hard court season got underway with the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open in Cincinnati. We are in the final by now. Let's take a look at the PYW ranking of the two remaining participants:

21. Patty Schnyder SUI
73. Chanda Rubin USA
The final finds two players without a PYW title battling it out. One of them will walk away with that much coveted first trophy. Patty Schynder looks the favourite for this tournament. She is ranked 21 in PYW and has a steady fan base. She struggled somewhat in the first set of her semifinal against Czech Iveta Benesova. The last two sets were won quite comfortably however. Her opponent in the final had it much tougher overcoming Indian teenager Sania Mirza. After going a set down, she battled through two tiebreaks. She even saved two matchpoints on the way. It shows the determination she has to do well on the PYW Tour again after a long injury break.
