Auf dem Weg in die WTA-Rangliste bekommt Dominice Ripoll Hilfe von ganz oben - von Steffi Graf.

Auf Spanisch feuerte sich Dominice Ripoll an. "Vamos!" rief sie nach einer krachenden Vorhand, ihrer besten Waffe. Matchball verwandelt zum 6:4, 4:6, 6:2-Sieg im Finale der Deutschen Jugendmeisterschaften über Ellen Linsenbolz. In ihrem Heimatclub TC BASF Ludwigshafen war Ripoll in der Altersklasse unter 16 Jahren nicht zu schlagen. Am Tag zuvor wurde sie Doppel-Vize-Meisterin.

"Die Beste ihres Alters in Deutschland"

"Sie ist derzeit ganz klar die Beste ihres Jahrgangs in Deutschland", findet auch Markus Schur. Der ehemalige Fed Cup-Coach kümmerte sich ein Jahr um Ripoll. Im April 2005 trennte man sich. "Auf mein Drängen hin", betont Schur. Die Gründe für die Trennung waren nicht sportlicher Natur. "Dominice ist sehr athletisch, sehr talentiert und körperlich viel weiter als zum Beispiel Anna-Lena Grönefeld im Alter von 15 Jahren", sagt Schur. Dennoch beendete er die Zusammenarbeit, weil "das Umfeld nicht optimal ist, um erfolgreich arbeiten zu können." Vor allem der Umgang mit Vater Rene sei nicht immer einfach. Auf Anfragen der Presse reagiert er distanziert. Häufige Trainerwechsel ordnete er in den letzten Jahren an. Unter anderem übernahm vor Schur Gerald Marzenell, früherer Bundestrainer des Damen B-Kaders, die Leitung des Trainings.
Dominice lässt sich von diesen Veränderungen nicht beirren. Sie will in die Top Ten kommen. In einem Steckbrief notiert sie beim Punkt "Deine Stärken" selbstbewusst "ALLES". Hinzu kommt eine Unterstützung, für die man sie deutschlandweit beneidet: Steffi Graf kümmert sich seit drei Jahren um die 15-Jährige aus Kirchheimbolanden. Im September 2004, vor Grafs Showkampf gegen Gabi Sabatini in Berlin, trainierten sie miteinander. "Ihre Voraussetzungen sind gut. Aber es ist ein langer Weg nach oben", meint Graf. Dominice sieht in ihrer prominenten Fürsprecherin vor allem eine gute Freundin, mit der sie manchmal trainiert und von der sie gute Tipps bekommt. Graf ist aber vor allem eins: ihr Vorbild. "Ich will eines Tages so erfolgreich sein wie Steffi", hofft Dominice. Sie ist die letzte Vertreterin des früheren Steffi Graf-Teams, das mit mehreren Nachwuchsspielerinnen begann, vor drei Jahren aber aufgelöst wurde. Sowohl Ex-Trainer Schur als auch Dominice selbst halten den Kontakt zu Graf vor allem über das Telefon. Letztes Jahr im Mai besuchte Graf ein Punktspiel der zweiten Damen-Bundesliga. Dominice machte mit dem BASF Ludwigshafen den Aufstieg in die erste Liga perfekt. Dort kam sie in diesem Jahr einmal zum Einsatz - und verlor.
International nur eine kleine Rolle

Überhaupt: Im internationalen Jugendtennis und auch bei den Profis spielt Dominice bisher keine große Rolle. Andere 15-Jährige wie zum Beispiel Sesil Karatantcheva gehören schon zur Weltspitze, während Dominice bei den Junior Grand Slam-Turnieren in Paris und Wimbledon jeweils in der ersten Runde scheiterte. In der Jugendweltrangliste steht sie auf Platz 63. Bei Profiturnieren im ITF-Circuit, für die sie seit dem Sommer 2004 meldet, gewann sie bisher zwei Matches. "Ich denke, dass sie in der Lage ist, diesen derzeit großen Abstand zur Weltspitze in den nächsten Jahren zu verkleinern", sagt Schur optimistisch. Wer die ehrgeizige Dominice schon einmal bei einem Match erlebt hat, kann sich denken, dass sie zumindest alles dafür tun wird.

US Open

I watched her match at the Open yesterday. Seemed like she should have been able to overpower Brodsky (who is quite small), but just too many errors for Dominice. Hope she will bounce back.

This week Dominice played the Wilson Wtb Cup at Stuttgart Stammheim. There she was seeded as no. 4 and defeated in first round Miriam Steinhilber, but then lost to Bianca Eichkorn 6-7; 5-7.
