She was awesome in last two matches. But somehow I think that whoever wins Ana or Jelena, will have to fight for no.1 against Sveta in the finals

Good luck girls!

Nice to see Serbian fans just happy to have either girl as #1 and not singling out one.

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Started historical week for Serbian tennis. Both WORLDS TOP2 is from Serbia (3rd time in WTA history after USA and Belgium both TOP2 is from same country).

But because Jelena will not compete in Eastbourne she will lose points from last season Rosmalen final and lose her (career high) #2 position already next week.

Talking about "Serbian #1" Race - Ana after Wimbledon will have 3737 pts + her Wimbledon/08 result and Jelena after Wimbledon will have 3545 pts + her Wimbledon/08 result.

That means if Ana wins Wimbledon 1st round match, to overtake her Jelena needs better result than Ana and atleast SF.

"STARTING" positions at Wimbledon:

Ivanovic 3737
Sharapova 3566
Jankovic 3545
Kuznetsova 3315 + Eastbourne/08

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Next week Ana Ivanovic will not defend her Los Angeles 2007 title but she will lose her points from LA in August, at "Olympics week".

Jelena Jankovic will also not lose her SF points from LA/07 but she have chances to improve her rankings in points if she reach atleast SF or even in position and overtake Ana and finaly reach WTA#1 spot - but only if she win. Most dangeres opponents in California she will have in Serena and Venus Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Points after Los Angeles:

Jelena Jankovic Winner 3890
Ana Ivanovic (not play) 3828
Jelena Jankovic Runnerup 3805
Jelena Jankovic Semifinalist 3740
Jelena Jankovic QF or worse 3685

(after LA Ana and JJ both will play in Montreal)

I just notice that Ana Ivanovic 10 days ago overtake Jelena Dokic on Serbian #1 "Overall Weeks" List since no more Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro Confederation first and than independent Serbia). Overall leader is still Jelena Jankovic.

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

This week Ana and Jelena compete in Montreal and next week no tournaments for both, but points from Los Angeles 2007 will be Cut-Off on monday August 11. That means same results in Montreal will produce two different lists in August 4 and August 11!

August 4 Ranking List:
Code:
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-W 4258
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-RU 4128
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-W 4065
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-SF 4023
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-QF 3938
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-RU 3935
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-3R 3888
Svetlana Kuznetsova Montreal/08-W 3885
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-SF 3830
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-2R 3829

August 11 Ranking List:
Code:
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-W 4045
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-W 3983
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-RU 3915
Svetlana Kuznetsova Montreal/08-W 3885
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-RU 3853
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-SF 3810
Svetlana Kuznetsova Montreal/08-RU 3755
Ana Ivanovic Montreal/08-SF 3748
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-QF 3725
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-3R 3685
Jelena Jankovic Montreal/08-2R 3685

So Jelena have "hard" and "easy" job in same time to overtake Ivanovic and finali reach WTA#1 (and Serbian). "Hard" from next monday perspective, but "Easy" if we look next monday (August 11) when Ana LA/07 title points will be finaly cut-off.

Jelena needs Montreal final to overtake Ana this week... but she is already overtake her for August 11 list (so Ivanovic Serbian#1 2008 strike will be ended after 30 weeks). Together with that JJ will probably (if Sveta not prevent that) become 18th #1 player in WTA history which is realy big reason for congratulation (week more at "Serbian#1" means nothing in comparation with that achivment)!

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Next (Olympics) week Jelena will broke Ana's 31 weeks strike at Serbian #1 in 2008 and which is more important, she will become 18th Worlds #1 in WTA history. But depending on Beijing results, Ana will very probably overtake Jelena on mondays august 18th list after cut-off points from Toronto/07 where JJ reach final.

Possible August 18 WTA#1 list:
Ana with OG gold _______ 3964
Ana with OG silver ______ 3856
Ana with OG bronze _____ 3786
Jelena with OG gold _____ 3778
Ana with OG SF ________ 3746
Ana with OG QF ________ 3701
Jelena with OG silver ____ 3670
Ana with OG 3R ________ 3659
Ana with OG 2R ________ 3639
Ana with OG 1R ________ 3612

So even with Olympics Gold Medal next week JJ maybe will lose #1 spot week after Beijing .

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

So if Jelena doesn't get to the Olympic final, Ana is guaranteed to get back to #1 and stay there at least until the end of US Open. Correct?
