Anyone here ever SOLD stuff on ebay?

My partner and I are doing some spring weeding and we've got a bunch of old record albums and a comic book collection (abandoned by a former housemate) we want to get rid of.

I'm thinking some of are collectible enough that they'd generate more interest and a higher selling price on ebay than at a tag sale, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. Anyone here used ebay to sell things? Is it relatively easy? A pain? (I'm not looking to start a home business, just wring as much extra "tasty beverage" funds out of the stuff as possible)

I sell on ebay every week. It's fun and I love it.

If you are afraid a valuable item may attract low bids, you can put a reserve price on the auction. I use buy it now alot and sometimes my items sell within hours.

A few more pointers:

1. Make sure you know the value of your collectible before listing it. You should also do a search on similiar or exact items to see the going rate on ebay .

2. Be descriptive about any possible flaws, dents, etc. Make sure you describe your item well detailing everything. You should state where you got this from, what year, etc.

3. Post pics of the item. Most sellers only post the one free alloted pic unless the item is big ticket.

4. List your payment terms in the auction, if you will only take money order, paypal etc. Ex. Payment must be recieved in an alloted time, no refunds. If you will accept credit card through paypal. Personally, I stopped taking paypal and only take postal money orders now.

5. I always include insurance required on big ticket items, and only delivery confirmation required on small items. You have to protect yourself in case someone makes a claim that they did not recieve their item. You will have proof and it has happened to me a few times, but nothing to be afraid about.

6. If possible give a flat shipping rate. You can weigh the box if you have a scale. I use stamps.com and they provide you with a free digital scale after youve signed up for a month. You can print postage from home and give them to your mailman when he comes right at your doorstep. If you don't want to do that then you can always go to the post office and get it weighed. Alot of sellers (myself included) charge a handling fee in the shipping to cover other costs. It's your decision if you want to do that or not.

Good luck.

You'd be surprised at the things people will buy - my Mom did a yard sale once, and some woman offered her $10 for a small box of random hardware bits and what looked like a small paint can without a label. (said can turned out to contain my dad's ashes, so it's a good thing Mom looked first )

Do you have any dirty socks, pregnancy tests, and all that weird stuff sell good. One lady sold the rights for someone to view her having birth for $5000. One one sold her positive pregnancy test for $100. I cannot go there but people do it all the time.

Many a weird thing sells, from supermarket carrier bags, half eaten Jaffa Cakes and rocking horse poo that was in fact lumps of wood (think about it)

The crazier the item, the more chance of selling.......just don't sell used panties, a friend of mine did it and got suspended after about 3 sales, although at £10 a pair x3, made £30 straight out

Yes, mainly to fund my buying addiction. It's no big deal as long as you have no expectations about how much money you will make.

I even managed to sell my smashed-up tennis racquet to some guy for about £2!! (Goran, are you reading this? )

the only thing i can reiterate from harloo's post is that no matter what the item is, what the cost, or what the size, make sure you send it with delivery confirmation. if you ship online with usps in a flat rate envelope, the confirmation is free.

I sold some stuff and had no trouble. Selling is easy, you wait until you get the money to send off the item so there is no chance of you getting screwed over.
