New prize money for 2005

The new prize money for Roland Garros 2005 will be increased by 2.39% and will reach 13.549.125 euros against 13.232.280 euros in 2004. I think this is the same increase as last year. Prize money for the winner will be :
- Men's singles : 880.000 euros
- Women's singles : 867.000 euros (98.5% of the men's singles winner prize)
They (the Tennis French Federation) also add that it is the higher prize money ever granted in Grand Slam. Is it true?

"Mon 04 Apr, 18h39

AP"

Why do women get less money than man?
I don't understand it.

It sucks big time. AO and USO have the same prize money for men and women.
At Wimbledon they give an excuse that men play best of five whereas women best of three. What a strange argument since that's how it is played at AO and USO too.
