As long as she stays consistent and pulls away with some big wins, as I'm quite sure she will, Lindsay is on track to remaining #1.

I vote none of them. No player this year was really that dominant over the others. I mean, who would've thought Lindsay would end the year at #1? I think it's all up in air for next year.

It's hard to say because injury and fatigue took a big toll on a lot of players this past season. I think no. 1 will continue to change hands between Capriati, Davenport and Hingis. Hopefully, if Serena and Venus play a full schedule, I would venture that either player could be fighting for the no. 1 spot by the clay court season. As for the other players listed, Henin, Clijsters and Dokic among others must not only defend their points from last year, but improve upon their results. I would guess that Kim Clijsters has the best chance of doing so since she plays well on most surfaces and actually defeated a top player (Davenport in the finals of the Bank of the West) to win a tournament. Seles regained her groove this summer by defeating Hingis, Capriati and S. Williams and taking the fall Asian tour by storm, but the slams seem to still be problematic for her. Mauresmo is talented, but her nerves let her down every time. Pierce has been out for so long; it is difficult to say how well she will play upon returning. Kournikova is always a tricky player to make a guess about. Last year, she missed 75% of the season due to injury, but even healthy as she was in 00, Anna was still unable to win that coveted first title. Hopefully things will turn around for her in 02, especially @ Auckland, but considering Anna's current ranking, it would take a minor miracle for her ranking to go to no.1. I am looking @ 02 as a rebuilding year for her.
Anyway, that is about all I can guess about at this point. Best of luck to all the ladies on the tour.

Venus has elzero points to defend at the end of the year. Thus her lead will increase. Also Serena can only gain in rank. I would not be surprised if Serena gets to #1 or #2.

I picked Venus - I mean she's bound to get there eventually so if I keep picking her, than I'm bound to be right eventually
