Venus lost although she totally out hit Maria.
Damn Venus, too many UFEs. But way to hit twice as many winners than Maria and prove what a better offensive defense player you are too. If only you would have played the whole match with the same intensity you played the last few games.

Venus had only two more ue's than winners. For her that is an EXCELLENT ratio. Against Serena, Venus had only one more winner than error. If Venus keeps her errors nearly equal to her winners, she is playing excellent tennis by her standards. That means to me that Sharapova was outplaying her and played very very well.

Once again Someone thinking that HITTING is all there is too tennis. CONTROL with power is necessary. Yes Venus hits harder but what good is that when she cannot keep them in the court?

The errors did her in. She cant afford those mistakes when playing the top players.

Stats are meaningless. Maria dominated throughout the match.

I disagree. Maria outhit Venus today, espeically on the big points. The stats don't count FORCED errors...

This is true but she usually can keep them in court except on the forehand side. She needs to fix this. If her forehand was as good as her backhand she would have won that match.
Maria did what every smart player does: attack your opponent's weakness.
Venus needs to shore up that forehand somehow. Whats wrong with her parents? Dont they want to fix her forehand?? Its the same with capriati with her serve. Sometimes I dont think parent coaches are such a good thing all the time. They should bring in people to help and then let them go and bring them back when needed.

Absolutely. Maria played just one tentative game - last game.. And other than that she was very dominant throughout the match.

some people are still in la-la land
Masha when it came to the crunch, she won the points that mattered.
thats all it boils down to.
Maria was in control thru out
winners mean little, getting an edge on a racquet means its no longer a winner.

yeah she really did, she was always searching for the lines, that Venus has more winners means nothing, Venus may played very well and made more winners but it was Maria that was in control, not really in the first but for sure in the second !!

I think some of them are looking for that small glimpse of hope to hang on to. Let's let them have that.

Correct.
There were at least 15 points where Maria moved Venus around at the baseline and eventually Venus would hit a FORCED error.

And someone could say Venus played a very passive match except for the last game where she played aggressive.
Look the bottom line is that maria was the better player today. Venus still had a great tournament even though she lost and Maria is having a great touranment eventhough she lost 0-6 0-6 last week.
