Predict-the-SCORE #26 -- WTA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Welcome to LOS ANGELES-The Greatest City on Earth
Predict-the-SCORE...
--The Sport of Kings--
Predict-the-SCORE is a game in which you predict the score (hence the name) of matches on the WTA Tour each week.
The tournament doesn't start for another 5 days, but I'm starting the thread now...
The top 8 Players will be able to play this event. The order is not set yet, but the players have been decided.
CONGRATULATIONS to the 8 who qualified!!!!
They are as follows:
*Yoav*
jrm
silverwhite
alwayshingis
HectorMagnus
Zhao
kwanfan
Ranadalara
As in the regular WTA Championships, you will be placed into two groups of four. The top 2 in each group will advance to be able to predict the two semifinals, and the winners of those matches will both predict the final to see who wins the WTA Championships.
The groups, both in actuality and in the game, will be finalized tomorrow and appear in this thread.
You must to predict the scores of matches in this breakdown:
GROUP PHASE: Predict in 8 out of 12 matches
SEMIFINAL: Predict the two Semifinals
FINAL: Predict the Final
IMPORTANT RULES:
1) If a player withdraws from the tournament at any time, or retires during her match the pick is not counted, and you are given a "replacement pick" which you may use at ANY TIME during the tournament in addition to your other picks.
2) You are not permitted to edit your posts under any circumstances. If you wish to alter your picks, please reply to your pick post and make the changes there.
3) You may no longer pick a match as "Davenport d. Q". You must have both players names in your pick for it to be valid.
Just ask if you want further clarification.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Scoring works:
Here is an example:
Several players decide to predict the Hingis vs. Venus Williams Semi-Final Match at the US Open in 1999
ACTUAL MATCH RESULT: Hingis def V. Williams 6-1, 4-6, 6-3
Let’s say the following are predictions from a range of players:
- 1. Hingis to beat V. Williams 6-1, 4-6, 6-3
Dead accurate and correct score, 35 points.
- 2. Hingis to beat v. Williams 4-6, 6-3, 6-1
You predicted the number of sets correctly and you got all three set scorelines correct, just in reverse the actual, this still gets you 25 points.
- 3. Hingis to beat V. Williams 6-1, 3-6, 6-2
You predicted the number of sets correctly, and you predicted one of the set scorelines correct (6-1) and it was correct because Martina won that set 6-1 like she actually did.
A prediction like this will reward you 20 points. (note if you predicted two of the sets correct but not the third on in a three match you will be given a bonus 3 points here)
- 4. Hingis to beat V. Williams 7-6, 2-6, 6-4
You predicted the number of sets correctly, and although 6-4 was in the actual scoreline, in the real match Venus won the set 7-6 not Martina, as you have predicted.
So any situations like this when you have predicted the correct winner and correct number of sets but no correct actual scorelines, you still gain 15 points.
- 5. Hingis to beat V. Williams 6-1, 6-2
You predicted the correct winner but not the correct number of sets but you did correctly predict at least one scoreline that was correct (6-1 in Martina’s favour), so you get 12 points.
(note if you picked Martina to beat Venus 6-1, 6-3, you still got at least one set correct, so that’s worth 12 too).
- 6. Hingis to beat V. Williams 6-2, 6-4
You predicted the correct winner, but neither of the scorelines were correct (note that 6-4 was in the real scoreline but in Venus’s favour not Martina’s as you have predicted). A prediction like this will reward you with 10 points.
- 7. V. Williams to beat Hingis 7-5, 1-6, 7-6
0 points for any incorrect “match” winner prediction.

Good luck everyone!
I'd prefer to be playing rather than watching, but oh well.

Well, If anyone doesn't play, you are second alternate, behind Samaria.
If any of the top 8 see this thread and know they cannot play, please post so you can be replaced.

QUESTION FOR NEXT YEAR:
When the game begins again next season, do you want to keep the current format, or do you want to have commitments and have it in a knockout format each week?

Wow! I'm in a tough group, with the current #1, the Philly winner and my fellow Singaporean!

Remember, you must pick in 8 of 12 matches. You may begin picking now. Even though we don't know the schedule, we know the matches that have to occur.
