I think it was in '93, and it wasn't on the air for very long.

I remember it.It had Judith Light in it...she did it right after Whos' the Boss.

It was pretty bad,but not as bad as jack-ass' er McEnroe's yap show.

I think I remember seeing part of an episode of it. I thought it had Melissa Joan Hart in it as the tennis player. Though maybe that's a different show because I recall the title being simply "Phenom". I remember the episode I saw was something about some player from another country staying with them. I distinctly remember the line "this place is more boring that EuroDisney". It's kind of scary that I remember any of that.

Even scarier...

The show starred Angela Goethals as the phenom and William Devane as her Bollittieri-esque coach. Goethals was most recently in the Comedy Central film "Porn and Chicken."

I'm off to hang my head in shame for knowing this....

I thought that show was soooo funny. I liked the older brother, he was so strange but very funny! I guess I did not care much for Judith Light or William DeVane though.

I remember it being a pretty bad show. I don't think it was based on Capriati, but perhaps inspired by her. I remember it being a sort of "Hollywood treatment" of tennis, playing fast and loose with facts. (Including outdated Virginia Slims references.) The tennis part seemed almost incidental at times, and could have been removed from most episodes with minimal alteration. I think where the show failed was in not exploring the tennis situation in more detail, thereby missing on a lot of potential storylines. It was more of a formulaic sitcom with a dash of tennis tacked on.

Angela was not built like a real tennis player. If she was a "phenom" why did she never play above her age group?
