Es ist der Traum vieler junger Mädchen: im Blitzlichtgewitter zu stehen, in schicken Hotels zu wohnen und bündelweise Geld zu verdienen. Zehntausende von Tennisspielerinnen quälen sich täglich dafür, um eine Eintrittskarte in die Glamourwelt lösen zu können. Doch nur wenige schaffen den Sprung nach ganz oben, von den meisten erfährt die Öffentlichkeit nichts.


Eine, die ihr Hobby erfolgreich zum Beruf gemacht hat, ist die in Berlin lebende Tschechin Kveta Peschke. Mehr als 840 000 Dollar erspielte sich die 29jährige in ihrer Karriere, belegt derzeit Platz 67 auf der Weltrangliste. Bei den German Open kämpfte sie sich ins Hauptfeld und kassierte mit ihrem Sieg in der ersten Runde 3325 Dollar Preisgeld. Für sie hat sich der Weg gelohnt. Doch Kveta Peschke warnt: "Wenn du nicht unter die ersten 100 der Welt kommst, hast du zu knabbern. Dann enden viele Turniere mit einem Minus."

Denn nur im Hauptfeld eines Turniers der höchsten Kategorie sei die Unterkunft frei, ansonsten müsse gezahlt werden. "Die Anreisekosten trägt sowieso der Spieler", ergänzt die für die Bundesliga-Mannschaft von Blau-Weiß spielende Tschechin. Zudem werde immer über die Sonnenseiten des Profi-Tennis berichtet, der harte Alltag bleibe ausgeblendet. "Um meine Form zu halten, muß ich täglich trainieren. Und das nicht nur auf dem Tennisplatz, sondern auch im Kraftraum", berichtet die mit ihrem Trainer Torsten Peschke verheiratete Blondine.

Die Hochzeit war ein Glücksfall, denn 24 Wochen im Jahr ist die 29jährige auf Reisen. "Wenn du niemanden an der Seite hast, kann es abends in den Hotelzimmern richtig einsam werden. Freundschaften gibt es auf der Tour nur wenige, denn der Konkurrenzkampf unter den Spielerinnen ist sehr groß. Ich finde das sehr schade", sagt die ehemalige Nummer 44 der Welt. Sie verstehe nicht, warum so viele Spielerinnen die sportliche Auseinandersetzung nicht vom Geschehen außerhalb des Platzes trennen können.

Ihr ist es immerhin gelungen, mit der deutschen Spielerin und jetzigen Fed-Cup-Chefin Barbara Rittner eine Freundin zu finden. Vielleicht verbindet beide Frauen, daß sie trotz aller Härte im Profigeschäft das Lachen nicht verlernt haben. "Nach 23 Jahren auf dem Tennisplatz wirst du gelassener", sagt Kveta Peschke sichtlich entspannt. Dabei mußte sie sich die Erfolge hart erarbeiten. Mit sechs Jahren spielte sie die ersten Bälle, mit neun Jahren ihr erstes Turnier. Bereits als Kind trainierte sie in dem kleinen tschechischen Städtchen Koprivnice jeden Tag, wollte unbedingt eine gute Tennisspielerin werden. "Es war keine normale Kindheit", gibt sie zu. Als dann im Alter von 16 Jahren die Entscheidung anstand, Profi zu werden, wurde im Haus Hrdlichkova lange überlegt. Schließlich stand Kveta kurz vor dem Abitur. "Mein Vater ermunterte mich, den Schritt zu gehen. Meine Erfolge haben ihm Recht gegeben", freut sich die lebenslustige Tschechin. Trotz ihres für eine Profispielerin hohen Alters von 29 Jahren denkt sie noch nicht ans Aufhören. "Solange ich so gut mithalten kann, will ich weiterspielen."

Dann aber will sie eine Familie gründen und ein neues Leben anfangen. "Ich bereue es nicht, Profi geworden zu sein. Doch wer sich für diesen Schritt entscheidet, sollte wissen, daß der Preis für die Aussicht auf Ruhm und Geld verdammt hoch ist." Die Schatten der Glamourwelt können sehr lang sein.

I'm afraid it's real. I recall Andreea Vanc upset Iveta/Kveta earlier this year at Australian Open. She's made of very tough dough. . .
