The day after Wimbledon ends, the World TeamTennis season begins. Several of tennis' top names — Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Monica Seles and Anna Kournikova — are among the players who will be in action in the opening week of the WTT season.
The 2004 season schedule, which was released by the league today, features 70 matches in 10 markets between July 5-25th with the WTT Championship set for August 27-28th at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, home of the U.S. Open.

Internet Icon Kournikova is the first of the marquee players to hit the court on July 6th when she and her Kansas City teammates travel to Mamaroneck, New York to take on Seles and the New York Sportimes. Kournikova continues her four-city swing with stops in Schenectady, N.Y. (July 8th) and Hartford, Conn. (July 9th) before returning to Kansas City for her home debut on July 10th.

The ageless Agassi, the WTT National Ambassador, returns to Sacramento on July 7th when his Capitals host the St. Louis Aces. For the past two years, Agassi has attracted sold-out crowds for his matches at the Capitals stadium court in the parking lot of the Sunrise Mall. Agassi will also play in Philadelphia against the Patrick Rafter-led Freedoms on July 9th.

Two-time U.S. Open champion Rafter, the top pick in the 2004 draft, isn't scheduled to play when Agassi comes to town, but Rafter will make his debut on July 21st when the Freedoms host the Springfield Lasers. Rafter will also play road matches in Delaware and St. Louis.

Reigning U.S. Open champion Roddick returns to action for St. Louis in a home match at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center on July 10th. Roddick's former housemate and Davis Cup teammate, Mardy Fish, makes his WTT debut for the Hartford FoxForce on July 7th, when Hartford travels to Mamaroneck, N.Y. to take on the Sportimes. Fish will also play in Hartford on July 7th and in Sacramento on July 11th.

The world's top-ranked doubles team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan and their Newport Beach Breakers teammates host defending WTT champion Delaware on July 10th then stage a family reunion of sorts when they travel to Sacramento on July 19th to take on the Capitals, who are coached by father Wayne Bryan. The battle of the Bryans continues the next night when the Breakers host Sacramento.

Seles returns to the WTT after a two-year break on July 8th in Delaware followed by her home debut for the Sportimes in Mamaroneck on July 9th and a visit to Newport Beach on July 11th.

Martina Navratilova will play six matches for the New York Buzz during the final two weeks of the season. For more information on World TeamTennis, please visit the World TeamTennis web site.

Monica obviously enjoys playing WTT, she played in 2001 also - I hope that they show this on tv.
