Nice to see the wrist not only isn't broken, but isn't seeming to affect her.

^ I didn't even know she had a wrist issue!

Well, she's on a roll. Upset Lucie, 4 & 4. Now a 5-3 lead in their h2h!

Klara falls to Stosur, 1 & 3. Now 1-3 against her h2h.

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

That's what forced her to WO in Tokyo and had her out for a couple of weeks. Apparently she fell and used her wrist to break the fall and there was fear that she might have broken it.

Tough loss today though, I was hoping she might have been able to take advantage of the fact of Stosur's long match with Cornet yesterday.

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

At 30, Klara had her best year on tour ever, ending 2012 in the Top 30.

2012 28
2011 41

Can she improve on that? Well, she was 0-3 in Australia last year, so it's possible.

Here's her Shenzhen draw:

Zakopalova v Hlavakova
Peer v Svitolina
Babos v Q
Chan(HKG) v Bartoli

Her draw is doable, but first she must face Andrea, who took her out of the US Open last year.

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

Quotable Quotes: Zakopalova On '12 & '13

Klara Zakopalova put together her first Top 30 season in 2012. How did she feel about it? What has she been doing in the off-season? What are her goals for 2013? All that and more, right here.

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - She's one of a growing number of 30-somethings on the WTA, and like many of them, she's playing some of the best tennis of her life - in fact, she put together her first Top 30 season in 2012. So how high is Klara Zakopalova aiming? Here she is in her own words...
On her best moments of 2012...
"My highlight was at Roland Garros, where I reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time in my life, and I played a really good match against Maria Sharapova. I was really happy after that tournament - I had a lot of energy to work hard and focus on things I still want to improve."
On finishing in the Top 30 for the first time...
"For sure it's a great feeling, but I haven't reached my goal, so I have more hard work in front of me!"
On whether she took any time off at the end of the 2012 season...
"I had a great off-season! I went to Austria with my husband. We stayed at the same hotel with Lucie Safarova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and we had a lot of fun. We were skiing a lot in the Soelden mountains and had some wellness in the afternoons, and after dinner we always played games and spent time together. I always like spending time with the other Czech girls, away from the courts!"
On her pre-season training for 2013...
"I've been preparing for the new season for a while now. I've made some changes, too - I have a new coach, his name is Martin Nekola. He's a very experienced coach, working with a lot of top players before like Bohdan Uhlirach, who was No.22 in the world on the ATP. I'm really looking forward to facing some new challenges with him. Right now we're working on my serve a lot because it's my big weakness, and without a good serve, you don't have a chance to beat the best players."
On the upcoming Australian season...
"I was really disappointed about my results in Australia last year, but on the other hand I have nothing to defend this time. All these tournaments in the beginning of the year are really strong and each match is very tough - but I want to give 100% to earn some points and maybe reach my best ranking!"
On whether bettering that career-high of No.27 is her goal for the year - she is currently perched right below it at No.28 in the world...
"I have my own goal, which I'm just keeping to myself and not really talking about... but I am still far away from it. But the most important thing is to stay healthy, and everything else isn't that important!"
