A lot of Canadians in the past have done well in juniors and sort of stalled when they went pro - Jeyaseelan, Fichman, Dabrowski, even Bester and Polansky were much more dominant as juniors than now - darn injuries!!! Anyone know about Francoise Abanda's recovery? She's only played one Jr. Fed. cup match since the US open. I was hoping she'd be back for Australia.........
thanks. I've been watching for Abanda too, she was on a few of the entry list's and pulled out. I checked her twitter and there was nothing. At least she doesn't have anything to defend for the next few months. As long as she comes back fully healed, I'm happy. Also, I find that the lovemeansnothing.ca is extremely hard to navigate and rarely has any results quickly, so rarely go there.

Re: The Juniors

Well, Zhao's been on a role lately. Last week she lost in the final of a G1 in Thailand and won the doubles. This brought her to #29 in the rankings. She's playing in the final of the 19th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup (I) vs. Kulichkova, who has been her doubles partner for the last two weeks. GOOD LUCK! They made the semis this week. She won't make much gain from this weeks tourny, as she made the final last year. But really good work, we now have 3 top 30 juniors! Genie will fall to about 6 next week, since she's not defending Gerdau, but it's her last year so it shouldn't matter since she'll still be seeded at slams.

Top 10 Juniors currently: (all in top 500!)
1. Eugenie Bouchard #4
2. Francoise Abanda #21
3. Carol Zhao #29 CHR
4. Erin Routliffe #88
5. Kimberly-Ann Surin #160
6. Gloria Liang #224 (CHR, made QF at G3 last week, made finals of a G4 this week and won doubles. Should go up more to about 200)
7. Marika Akkerman # 256
8. Devin Chypyha #427
9. Wendy Qi-Wen Zhang #465
10. Lauren Chyphyha #491

Next week Zhao and Surin are playing another G1, while Akkerman's playing a GA
*Only Zhao ended playing

Re: The Juniors

Interesting news this week. Franncoise Abanda made here return as the number 1 seed a G2 in France, but unfortunately lost in the first round. Routliffe is also there, and has won the doubles title and is into the singles final.

Tennis Open Junior de Cap d'Ail G2

Doubles Final : Routliffe/Lottner [4] d. Bogoliy/Rosatello [1] 6-3 6-0

As well there is a G4 in Canada right now, where Gloria Liang made her comeback. So many Canadians, I'll only put up from the quarterfinals onwards.

Open Junior du Conseil General G4:

Doubles: Julia SOICA (FRA)/Lucie WARGNIER (FRA)d. Nicole BUNEA (CAN)/Dominique MORTIER (BAH) 6-1 6-1

(Bunea is only born in 1999, that gave me a bit of a shock. It seems so young).

And finally, Kimberly-Ann Surin decided to go to the University of Arkansas. Probably a good choice right now.

Interesting that Townsend routined Abanda just as recently as April, then Abanda beat her twice in a row just now. It's going to be exciting now that she's recovered from her injury. It looks like Liang was injured, as she just started playing again this week.

Re: The Juniors

Francoise Abanda vs. Carol Zhao for the G1 final! That's very exciting. Abanda defended a huge chunk of her points and Zhao gained quite a bit, no matter who wins. Zhao is in the final with Routliffe as well. Zhao really should get a thread soon, she's been a top junior for quite a while and had a decent pro ranking. Good job to Marika Akkerman, Charlotte Petrick and Alexis Prokopuik for winning a round at a G1 as well! 1998 born Kopcalic reached the quarters in doubles with 1997 born Leduc as well.

Both Marika Akkerman and Kimberely-Ann Surin participated in US Open junior qualies. Was sorta surprised to see Surin there, seems as though she hasn't played in forever.

11 Tornado Ali Black (USA) d. K-A Surin 6-1 6-2
Marika Akkerman d. (Alt) Lavanya Khanuja 6-0 6-1
FQR: Akkerman vs. Valeria Salazar (MEX)(current rank 257, CHR 197) Good luck!.

Does anyone know anything about Akkerman? She plays quite a bit and has a pretty good ranking. I don't think she's really associated with Tennis Canada though. I can't even find her in the national rankings. Seems a bit weird.
