Is Jennifer the #2 Seed?
When rankings come out, Jennifer will be #5, and Lindsay will be #6.
So won't Venus and Jennifer be the top 2 seeds?
The event will have the new rankings, but I am not sure if they use the rankings prior to the Australian to figure out seeding.
Anybody know?

Jennifer will be seeded 3rd, as they are oblidged to use pre-Aus Open ranks for draw and seeding. This is if no one withdraws *wink*
1. V.Williams
2. Davenport
3. Capriati
4. Dementieva
5. Sugiyama
6. Rubin
7. Petrova
8. Dokic

Not sure but Lindsay won the Pan Pacific last year - her only title in fact of the year - so once those points are deducted, she may fall behind Jen in the rankings.

Jen did not have any points to defend from Australia, (well only 2). So the "next off" = points for Australia + this event, so it puts Lindsay behind Jennifer by about 100 points (more or less). jennifer moves to #5 in the World.

if they used the post-AO ranks Venus would be seeded like 8 or something. so they've got to be going with the pre-AO ranks

The LATEST available OFFICAL rankings are ALWAYS used when making a draw.
Since the draw will be made on Saturday/Sunday and the new rankings won't appear until Monday - The pre-Australian rakings are used.
