Sharapova retired due to a lower left leg strain
Then she won't be in a good shape to beat Myskina...  That's too bad.... I think she should give Myskina a walkover and go home to prevent further injury...

perhaps she feels this gives her the best chance to BEAT myskina... players pull out of the doubles all the time and then play their singles matches if they don't feel 100%

I agree, in 2002 Kim pulled out of the doubles in the 3rd or 2nd round because of her shoulder injury but went on to make the semis in singles. This doesn't mean she can't win her singles against Myskina.
