I watched the singles match and I was alarmed by JJ's forehand shots down the line. The cross court didn't give me issue because she wasn't using it to win or even set up points, she was just staying in the rally. But all those errors when she took the forehand up the line are just bothersome.
I felt like JJ decided the only way she was willing to win this match was to wait for her opponent to make an error and it seemed her opponent was more than happy to hit the ball long so many times to give JJ this win.
JJ better hope Lucie brings her big hitting, error pronged game next round, because if Lucie is on fire and hitting the winners every which way, JJ is out of Dubai in less than an hour and a half.
In the second set, her opponent just kept hitting balls into the net. She was hitting them long, just barely over the baseline most of the match.. but the last few games were balls netted every which way.
Zane, has some real power. She hung in some good rallies, but I can't say I'm overly impressed. The commentators think she'll be easily a top 10 star in the future and that might happen, but of all the young guns she just didn't have any fight or fire in her belly. JJ, God love her, is yelling at everyone in every direction. And Zanevska just seemed doomed. I'm not implying that JJ's yelling after points was getting to Zanevska, but I can guarantee she's probably never encountered it so consistently in her young career.
I watched the last two games of the match on Youtube, she didn't make any unforced errors in the last two games but yeah her forehand was pretty terrible, she hit one really good short angled one but aside from that they were all mistimed and had no pace on them.
Sounds contradicting but I'm used to her playing shit against people who she doesn't need to GOAT it up against.
I mean she's had some pretty compelling wins in the past against her first round opponents which is all good if she continues, but she knows Lucie is no pushover so I think she will rise to occasion (hence the contradiction because when it really matters she actually chokes  )
Has JJ ever lose to Lucie easily? They seem to have a lot of big battles as of late, except that demolition in Rome
Something tells me she was trying to hit through the ball too much maybe? Courts are slower in Doha so she put more on her shots, but now in Dubai courts are faster so she's going for too much? Idk.
Lucie seems to be very streaky at the end of sets/matches. Their Beijing match was classic. Lucie was on fire (as was Jelena) for about 2 and 1/3rd sets. Then Lucie tracked off a bit and Jelena took it in the end. But as well know how Jecalina loves to not take advantage at the end of games/sets/matches!
Also evident in Lucie ' s match with Petra in Doha. Choked a lead in first set. And second set at 5-3. Then didn't put up much fight in final set.
If Lucie is GOAT tomorrow so be it, but if Jelena can stick around long enough, we might see JJ nick it in the end!
JJ will beat Serena, make the finals, and lose to Wozniacki. It's just Jelena's style. Just think of it as wedding gift when she finally walks down the alter in the land of Smaug.

I reeeeeaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy want you to guess You will probably get it quickly, because my nickname on there is similar to yours I forget to go on there much Are the regulars still there? You ever see Pushitniacki? Last time I was on, his account hadn't been touched in like 55 days
With all the JJ bashing, I think I just see a match like this one and I set the bar really low so that if JJ does come through it makes me that much more excited and happy.
I'm with you, JJ! Even if you scream and yell out in anger way too much and lose concentration 40-50 percent of the time.
