Jelena Dokic Joins NTT; Looks For Good Roland Garros
Jelena Dokic in a practice match with Ana Ivanovic
Paris, FRANCE -- The illustrious NTT Coach DefyingGravity has had enormous success with Laura Robson as a star pupil. He began Kim Clijsters' road and took on a slumping Ana Ivanovic and a lackluster Vera Zvonareva. So what is his next move? He's taken on the Australian star Jelena Dokic just a few days before Roland Garros. Why the sudden drop of Ana Ivanovic? It seems as though the Ivanovic camp wanted her to return to her former coach, and as such, DefyingGravity was dropped in a heartbeat. However, an hour later, the coaches in Jelena Dokic's camp wanted her to train with DefyingGravity, the coach of Wimbledon champion and world number one Andy Murray on the men's NTT. DefyingGravity said he could not pass this opportunity up.
"It's incredible how much power Jelena has in her groundstrokes. It's absolutely stellar, just knocking off winner after winner on both sides. On clay, even, she does a good job of bossing people around. I want to add some more security to her game, if I can, and really try hard to get her serve and volleys up to a level where she can at least feel comfortable with attacking the short ball and coming in. If I can get that to work with her, watch out top 5. She's going places, and she could win Roland Garros if she puts in the hard work," said DefyingGravity in a press conference at Roland Garros. The 6th seeded Dokic had this to say:
"You know, I just want to really work hard and try to get some matches in before Wimbledon. There's almost no expectation on me, as I don't do well with clay similarly to Ana this clay season. Who knows. It could click here, it could take until Wimbledon or beyond to find my game. I just know that I want to be in the top 5 for my home nation's slam next year."

Good Practice from Dokic in Paris
On the grounds of Roland Garros, in anticipation of the tournament, 6th seeded Jelena Dokic had a good practice match against Jelena Jankovic. Jankovic would win 7-6(4), 7-5, but the fact that Dokic is playing well on what's her worst surface really seems to be encouraging. She asked Jankovic to play similarly to her opening round opponent, Tatjana Malek of Germany.
"Looking ahead to that first round match, I hope I can play well. Malek will be tricky, she likes to hit a lot of slice and junk and I know that I don't handle that as well as some girls. I will just have to try and dominate with my game."
