Murray completely withered from 2-0 up in the third set. Rather odd. He's supposed to be a very fit player and he hasn't had a particularly tough road to the final, dropping only two sets on the way and even having an extra day to recharge after the SF. But also full credit to Djokovic who played great tennis the last 13 games.
Yes, it's strange. Seems like Murray completely imploded after Djokovic' customary "I'm so tired" act.

Re: Multi sports thread

Djokovic's 5 AO titles is a record for the open era, surpassing Agassi and Federer's 4 (Roy Emerson won 6 in the amateur era). Djokovic is becoming the king of AO the way Nadal is the king of FO, so it's only Wimbledon and USO that's wide open these days (no one has won Wimbledon or USO two years in a row since Federer's heyday).

Re: Multi sports thread

Although both obviously play at a very high level I must admit that Djokovic vs Murray is my least favorite rivalry involving 'the big four.' I much prefer Federer vs Djokovic (or Federer vs any of them really) or Djokovic vs Nadal.

Re: Multi sports thread

I thought Murray would lose to Novak at AO. All the TV commentators - Anabel Croft, Ginny etc were tipping Murray but Novak usually wins at AO.

What I wasn't prepared for was just how bad Murray played in the final when he looked then better player in the previous rounds. Spraying UEs all over the place.

Novak salvaged this Australian Open for me, with Keys being the only other bright spot.

I think that Murray played very well in the first two sets. When he went 2-0 in front in the third he even seemed the most likely winner at that point. Than Djokovic started stumbling all over the place and 'cramping' and from that point onwards Murray was toast. Probably the most bizarre momentum switch I've ever seen.

Yeah I really was meaning after the first 2 sets. And then Murray was just terrible.

Re: Multi sports thread

The men's IW final will be the 38th meeting between Djokovic and Federer. Federer leads 20-17 but Djokovic has won their two previous IW encounters (2011 & 2014).
