Raluca-Ioana Olaru (Romania) ~ 16 yrs old

Good luck Raluca in your RG final Sunday! :D :bounce:

Olaru earned her chance at the singles title with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 comeback win against Ayumi Morita of Japan and said she couldn’t be more excited to be so close to a debut singles junior grand slam title. “Oh, I’m extremely excited,” she said, with a broad grin. “I knew that I could do it before the tournament but of course I was a bit tense today in my match. This is new for me, it’s my first time and everyone is congratulating me, which is really nice. I think I have to try and not think about being in the final and be confident and tell myself that I deserve to win the title.”

Raluca is a very good clay-courter.

She won Astrid Bowl Charleroi, Belgian International Junior Championships last week. Made the finals the week before that at the Trofeo Bonfiglio "Campionati Internazionali D'Italia". Then made the semis before that at the International Junior Tournament "Citta' Di Santa Croce". Then before that made the finals at the Gerdau Tennis Cup. Then before that made the QF's at the Banana Bowl and a QF at the Uruguay Bowl. Then before those, she made another final at the Coffee Bowl (Copa del Cafe). All of these are on clay in 2005. This girl seriously rules the clay and has put together a 36-7 record this year!

Plus she's had impressive wins over Alize Cornet two times, Timea Bascinszky, Olivia Lukaszewicz, Evgenia Rodina, Ayumia Morita two times, and Anna Tatishvili! :bigclap:

GO RALUCA!

She needs to begin playing more regularly also, now is definitely the time to be gaining points but she's losing opportunities by not playing in some of these weak fields. Today's loss is discouraging, though. I really wasn't expecting such a beatdown and what is even more concerning is that this is on Ralu's favorite surface.

Honestly things started going downhill when she started working with Steffi Graf. Ralu said after that that she would be focusing on the big events and I remember her ranking was around 80 and she was acting like she was a top 20 player with that comment. She needs to play some 25K's
She's been slumping for like 2 years now

Ralu lost R1 Wimbledon qualies to Batrchikova (or something) 06 67 :( What else is new. She is literally hopeless at the moment.

Yep. Raluca has to start again at the very bottom I'm afraid and just get as many matches under her belt as she can at any level. Right now getting wins at whatever level she can get them is all that matters. I think the only way she will improve again is to play herself back into form. I hope also that she has a really good coach by her side right now. In times like this, a player needs that more than anything.

Saw a few games from the first set which Bratchikova romped through and the tie break at the end when presumably Raluca was playing her best. Wasn't that it was quite as bad as at Eastbourne two years ago when nothing was working, no one feature of her game particularly bad, just everything not quite up to the level she was playing at (100-200 in world). 200-300 maybe. She hasn't come on in two years. She also doesn't play with any particular spirit either, as if she knows she'll probably lose. She carries herself professionally but doesn't give anything more.
Bratchikova seemed quite powerful for this level, but nothing to be scared of.
Maybe Raluca doesn't know what else to do?

R1: Ivakhnenko def. Olaru 6-3 6-2  :hysteric:

Ioana, go back to 10k really! There's no sens in being the walking bye wherever you play.

But no, she is playing the 100k in Bucharest next week... :spit:

Maybe we should change the title to Romania's slumpiest!
