iPhone jailbreaking (and all cell phone unlocking) made legal

Owners of iPhones and other smartphones are one step closer towards taking complete control of their gadgets, thanks to a new government ruling Monday on the practice of "jailbreaking."

This weekend has seen a flurry of activity about digital rights, but the biggest news dropped Monday morning, when the FCC announced that it had made the controversial practice of “jailbreaking” your iPhone — or any other cell phone — legal.

Jailbreaking — the practice of unlocking a phone (and particularly an iPhone) so it can be used on another network and/or run other applications than those approved by Apple — has technically been illegal for years. Most jailbroken phones are used on the U.S. T-Mobile network or on overseas carriers, or are used to run applications that Apple refuses to sell, such as Safari ad-blocking apps, alternate keyboard layouts, or programs that change the interface to the iPhone's SMS system and the way its icons are laid out.

While technically illegal, no one has been sued or prosecuted for the practice. (Apple does seriously frown on the practice, and jailbreaking your phone will still void your warranty.) It’s estimated that more than a million iPhone owners have jailbroken their handsets.

Apple fought hard against the legalization, arguing that jailbreaking was a form of copyright violation. The FCC disagreed, saying that jailbreaking merely enhanced the inter-operability of the phone, and was thus legitimate under fair-use rules.

The upshot is that now anyone can jailbreak or otherwise unlock any cell phone without fear of legal penalties, whether you want to install unsupported applications or switch to another cellular carrier. Cell phone companies are of course still free to make it difficult for you to do this — and your warranty will probably still be voided if you do — but at least you won’t be fined or imprisoned if you jailbreak a handset.

Whatever. They are all brainwashed and ridiculous for letting some lame ass bitch control them.

She was Cherry Cherry but the mods realised she was just arguing with them more than anything else and just extended her ban a little. She's actually quite nice if you get to know her.

Great news! I thought she was permabanned. When they hear about the fact that she isn't, Lamegrade will be furious.

I've been doing a lot tonight, not just being on here :oh:

But DEAD at that Wozniacki hantuchova match. Epic.

I'm stupid and got annoyed by my parents selling my car when I went to Europe for a month so haven't gotten off my Ls in protest. It's worked out that I have no car and now no license :help:

I WISH I was still on my Ls  Because now that I'm on my Ps my parents just expect me to drive them everywhere so they can drink and don't have to pay for a taxi :weirdo: They say it's "payback" for all the years they've dropped/picked me up from work and stuff :tears:

That was such a great day :hysteric:
I will never forget that day :sobbing: One of the most epic days in GM history. I'm pretty sure the thread has the record for most posts in a match thread. It ended up getting locked cause all the haters (including me) kept bumping it like weeks after the match happened. I think some other Wozniacki haters got banned after that too

Here it is: http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=435986 So many memories  In a way I miss when Wozniacki was #1, it was more satisfying when she lost. Now it's kinda anticlimatic

WTF Mark ? SERIOUSLY ????

OVERLY GAY ? wow :yeah: TF is full of gays. And you are one to talk, after saying you wanted to carry Djokovic's babies and would not say no to him. Really... this was such an unnecessary argument.
And Chatzy is not even used for bashing you guys. I can do a screenshot if needed. It's exactly like PMs or MSN except in groups. Do you guys shittalk other chatthreads too ? I remember Caralenko, Nikki, Just Do It, Glenn, Marko (Slutati), Serenidad and others having their own MSN group. I know it because I was actually a part of it two years ago.

I mean, you do whatever you want. But I think the Brigade hate is getting ridiculous. It's actually a trend here. I don't want fellow Mashabators to take sides on that issue, because it's ridiculous, and it's not their matter. We might be the worst vile creatures on Earth, but please stop that trend to spread on TF. It's getting boring. That's all. I don't even say amen to everything most of them say, but we can talk about it, and agree to disagree. It's just a thread where to happily chat, nothing more...

I am so sorry fellow Mashabators.

Palate cleanse !

LMAO MARIA !!!! :haha:  She is so adorable. :oh:

Most people here really have no opinion on Brigade debby. Other than Mark for his own reasons and Svetlio (I'm not sure why he hates it so much). I wouldn't say Brigade bashing goes on in here, it's just that this is the thread people come to when something is pissing them off. And Brigade seems to be pissing off a couple at the minute.

Here = TF  Sorry, I didn't use the right word. ;)

SS is actually very lovely, there is a lot of fun, really excellent atmosphere. :yeah: That's not that something you can see in all subforums. Barely drama in SS as well. But then maybe it's just because it's the off-season. :rolls:
