Forget the fact that Despina Papamichail is the next Daniilidou. Shes gonna be better. She just turned 15 in February, and already she has a WTA ranking of 1000. Her career high is 990. She is the number 7 ranked junior in the u16 division in Europe, and remember she JUST turned 15! She is 4-3 in her WTA career. She only played 3 tournaments in her life. She reached the QFs in Porto Rafti 10k, the 2nd round in Goudi 10k, and the 2nd qualifying round in Patras 50k, where she lost to the top seed. Also, she kind of looks like Justine Henin, when Henin had the reddish-brownish hair.

She won a match! :worship:
But she couldn't even win a match in doubles this time . *I don't know what she did over the off-season but it obviously wasn't good for her . *And there are two 10Ks in Greece that I see she didn't enter. *Maybe she will take a WC as she usually plays well/tries harder in Greece?. *And there are 2 more so I'm curious to see if she will enter them...
If not, she needs to take some time off and train hard because soon she will lose a lot of ranking points...

She's slowly regaining her form I guess
No doubles here, which is weird since there are byes in the draw and she could've done well in doubles :p
She has 32 points to defend over the next 6 weeks, so hopefully she can win some matches soon :scared:. She needs to play some easy 10Ks, and there are many of them during this time of year, but she isn't entering them

I think Despina could've done better, but I understand that Sorribes-Tormo is one of the best 15 year olds out there :p. Well, I hope Despina starts to play some weak tournaments soon because her ranking will soon be dropping as she is defending 32 points in the next month :help:. She did well in doubles though. She played with some Spanish player ranked in the 500s and they managed to push Ferrer-Suarez and Hogenkamp to an STB, before losing 10-5.

Some stuff from Fed Cup:

She then made a great decision by taking 5 weeks off. I thought it would help her greatly. However...

Really?
I'm speechless honestly. I wonder how many MPs she wasted in the second and third sets :rolleyes:. She needs to go back and play some 10Ks, which she keeps refusing to do and as a result her ranking has slipped down to #444 :tape:.

Despina's next tournaments:
-15K Rovereto, Italy MD
-25K Zwevegem, Belgium Q or 10K Torino, Italy MD
She better chose Torino or else . Even 15K may be too much for her now, but at least she is entering smaller events, even though its something she should've done a long time ago . I think from now until the rest of the year, she needs to play just 10Ks or weak 25Ks. She keeps playing medium or strong 25Ks in Europe which is no good since she keeps losing. If she plays a smarter schedule, MAYBE she can end the year in the top 300, even though most of us expected to see her end the year in the top 200 but thats too unrealistic now . And she has 38 points to defend over the next few weeks

Not sure what to say. Rovereto looked promising after R1 but then she got double bagelled by Zucchini :tape:. Same thing in Torino, R1 looked good and then lost R2. Second consecutive loss to Moratelli now. I wonder how many set points Despina wasted in the first and second sets :unsure:

Oh and Despina is now down to 485 in the singles rankings :help:

Locri was another letdown. I knew she would lose to Albano, but I thought she would at least beat Savarise easier :tape:. Rotterdam was expected but I thought she would win a few more games at least

Well she's now #627 in singles :help:. The lowest she's been in a couple of years now, and she's Greek #4 . In doubles she is currently ranked #554

Some progress since the last update I guess...
-Lost R1 of 10K Italy (seeded 8th) 6-3 2-6 2-6 to Natalia Siedliska (POL, #895, 16 yo) :(
-QF of 10K Spain (seeded 8th) ; d. Mendo (ITA, #912, 19 yo) 6-3 6-0, d. (Q) Parres Azcoitia (ESP, #1053, 19 yo) 6-2 6-3, l. to (2) de la Torre-Sanchez (ESP, #348) 5-7 4-6

-Lost R2 of 10K Greece (Kalamata) as 6th seed/WC. Beat Payet (FRA, #780, 18 yo) 6-4 3-6 7-5. Lost to Czarnik (POL, NR, 18 yo, since then reached 2 10K QFs) 4-6 4-6 :(
^Lost doubles QF with Christopoulou (GRE) :tears:
-QF at 10K Turkey. Beat (WC) Frapolli (SUI, NR) 7-5 6-0 and (4) Lehnert (GER, #453, 18 yo) 7-5 6-0 before losing to (6) E.Ianchuk (UKR, #457, 18 yo)
^Lost doubles QF with Caregaro (ITA). Beat Allgurin/O.Ianchuk in R1 before losing to (3) Fomina/Gjorcheska (eventual finalists) in QF

Despina is currently ranked 664...well, I just hope she can just keep reaching some more 10K QFs for the rest of the year. I mean what more can I ask for with the way her season went this year? I just hope she can continue to improve her ranking (albeit little by little) and then just work hard in the off-season to get back to where she was in the rankings as quickly as possible. Funny how I expected her to maybe even make the AO qualie cut-off for 2013, little did I know that her ranking would drop over 300 places without injuries, etc. Hopefully she just keeps trying because eventually it will all pay off for her :)

Also she's 511 in the doubles rankings, a career-high for her :cheer:

Overall, a very very good week. I can't remember the last time when she won 5 matches in a row. Hopefully she can keep up this level.

10K Egypt:
R1 l. to (3) Marina Shamayko RUS (#414) 7-6 4-6 5-7

She must be playing well if she played such a tight match against an almost top 400 player (who ended up winning the title) and won the doubles title, so good for her :):yeah:

10K Egypt:
R1 l. to (Q) Ana Veselinovic SRB 6-0 2-6 6-7

Okay week I guess. Veselinovic is a former #329 on a comeback trail so it's not like she's a random nobody unranked qualifier...

-QF in doubles

Another great week. No shame in the loss to Jani who was ranked in the top 150 less than a year ago and has been 30-3 on the year and was the eventual winner of this tournament. Against both Jani and Shamayko, Despina gave them their toughest matches of the tournaments that they won ;)
