Simona should first sort out her mental issues, then we are talking about tennis again.

No spirit, no fight, no fortitude, tons of wasted chances and a body language of a beaten dog.

She just dropped her coach and it has obviously to do something with her playing more aggressive. Pretty sure they had some debate about that last year already.

At this point I would already call it a success if she can lose closely for once. However, I'm used to my copatriots losing it in the head, in the end it's up to them to solve it, but I'm not really convinced they'll ever do.

You are so right, Curcubeu. What was Simona doing out there? Nothing. Didn't seem to care except on a point or two. I usually don't like to say that about players, since it is difficult to tell really if someone cares or not if they are not particularly demonstrative, but...if the shoe fits.

At least Vinci played pretty well and was quite efficient.

Simona's goal to play more offensive is good but not sure if she'll get it. I hope she will.
Changing from a defensive style to an aggressive one will take time.
Hitting those winners on Vinci's second serve looked nice.
Also the Italian played efficient and did not make many real UE.

2 things annoys me;
-0/4 on BP conversion
-at 4-3 on her serve she had 40-0 and she got broken.
Vinci was smart to not let the match prolong.

Simona can really play at a higher level she just need focus during the whole match.
A good strategy and a good coach are compulsory.

Yep, Halep is capable to play more aggressively particularly with the backhand but she doesn't need to change from a defensive style to an aggressive one, she needs to get a better mindset by playing smart aggressive counterpunching (like she's capable of when she plays at her best) but to play that style, she should work on her physical condition (relatively average: good speed and decent athlecism at her best form but she often seems to be injured) and needs to do something with her forehand technique as well (limited).
She has a decent margin for improvement even if she lacks natural power and aggressive mindset.
She could be a top 30 player if she improves on these things.
