Ang Lee for two great films, Peter Jackson for one of the best adaptations of all time, I mean he created a whole world and the Coen brothers for anything they do.
Also have to say Polanski, that was a great film.

Re: Who is your favorite Oscar's Best Director of the last decade?
Even though Scorsese probably got the oscar more as oevre prize from an academy that was trying to save itself the embarrassment of never awarding the oscar to one of the all-time great directors, The Departed is a great film that highlights his strengths as a director. He gets my vote.
Honorable mentions: Coen Brothers, Ang Lee (for Brokeback Mountain, haven't seen Life of Pi yet), Peter Jackson and Roman Polanski.

i don't know how i should judge this category, or in other words: what is a "best director"? either i pick the movie i like best or i pick the director whose body of work has impressed me most ... combining both appraoches lead me vote for the coens.

Exactly, how does it work, anyway? I've always wanted to know how they decided on what.

I'm wondering how they (the Academy viters) choose the winner for this too Like how they judge the directing based on the final product? Isn't it just the same as judging the whole movie which is basically just choosing Best Picture? That's why usually Best Director & Best Picture winners are the same (Except for Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain & Life of Pi which got snubbed )

Ang Lee. Brokeback Mountain not winning BP is one of the greatest travesties of all time. Crash is such contrived bullshit.

Re: Who is your favorite Oscar's Best Director of the last decade?
I like the stories that Clint Eastwood tells. I also like the fact that I didn't like him until he became a director.
The Pianist and Brokeback were amazing too!!
The Departed and The King's Speech were very enjoyable.

As usual, not seen most of the films but I vote for Ang Lee. Must admire his bravery with accepting the driver's seat for BM.
