she could be really something. 13 y.o. and already in an IMG London Academy, made it to slam junior qualies in just a few months on the circuit etc. Hope she's a future star.
Donna is so close now but only one more player can exceed her points total before her top 108 ranking is lost. I dontvthink this will happen but it could. Still watching Dubai unfold closely.
Yeah, the results yesterday weren't in her favour. All those players who could overtake her are through to the second round. Kr.Pliskova has already overtaken her.
Still she's probably going to get in with withdrawals. Kanepi is already fairly certain and she just needs one more.
Its a little jiffy at the moment. We need Putintseva to win her quarter then lose her semi or Karolina P to win her quarter and lose her semi basically. Or one more withdrawal, but I was hoping we wouldn't need to rely on that.
This is seriously so annoying. Of course all those players are winning their matches.
Putintseva and Svitolina are playing in one quarterfinal and Date-Krumm and Ka.Pliskova are playing in another quarterfinal. Ideally Putintseva would beat Svitolina then lose in the semifinals to Kr.Pliskova/Bratchikova, and Ka.Pliskova would beat Date-Krumm then lose in the semifinals to Zhou/Nara. That way nobody else overtakes her. Kr.Pliskova has already overtaken Donna so she doesn't matter.
As I've said 99% chance she'll get in anyway but it's just so annoying not knowing for sure and having to wait for someone to withdraw.
According to Meelis the cut-off last year was #112 and in 2011 it was #115, due to player withdrawals. At worst Donna will be #109.
Well today one result went in Donna's favour. Putintseva beat Svitolina. Now if Putintseva loses her next match then Donna will be into the AO maindraw with Kanepi's withdrawal.
Well I don't think that Putintseva will lose next match but it really doesn't matter.
Donna will play AO MD for sure with this ranking if she will be healthy.
Then we'll only have sweet worries about who she will draw.
It is not that simple.
If I am correct, Svitolina, Birnerova and Puig can both overtake her if:
Svitolina makes QF, Birnerova makes Semi, and Puig Wins in Ankara
There is a chance she could go down to 112
Well Putintseva won her semifinal and made the maindraw.
So now it's a done deal, Donna is #109 and assuming Dulgheru uses her SR she needs two withdrawals to make the maindraw, probably Kanepi and one other.
I hate not knowing for sure. I seriously cannot believe all five of those players ended up doing well in Dubai and overtaking Donna. Unreal.
Btw from her Facebook page:
2013. will be an interesting year. My wish is that along with my tennis progress, to make even a closer relationship with my fans all around the world. We have many news coming, DV-TV is one of them.
More about that coming soon..
Donna is now most likely in Australian Open MD as Putintseva failed to win in Dubai and is not playing Ankara. I would expect Elina to overtake her in Ankara in a fortnight and probably Puig, but if Birnerova doesn't make the final, she will be in unless no one withdraws
EDIT: Putintseva made MD as she climbed higher than I thought. Now only 2 of Svitolina, Puig and Birnerova have to do well to push her out
Day off! I sure know how to rest after a tough week. Enjoying in the pool, massage and beach walk before starting a new practice week in Dubai. Also going to have a cheeky BBQ tonight. And ...today forgot my sun cream
Call me crazy, but I actually wouldn't mind it if she would draw a seeded player in R1. OK, not necessarily Azarenka, but someone who could provide her with a learning experience and someone who would be a big challenge for her. Why? Because she usually chooses to play weaker events and in those she is rarely in a chance to face someone really good. Her objective is #1, so she should, from time to time, face someone who is close to the top of the game, just so that she gets the idea how far she still has to go. I understand that valuable points are at stake, but she can make up for those in some other events, and she is not defending that much after all, in the first half of the year. Not to mention that she would have an open path to quite far into the tournament if she would somehow scrape a win. Now, who would be a good draw...
Thanks to Goran believing in me (Sportske novosti, Dec 04)! That means me a lot , Goran is one of the greatest player and personality in the world of tennis.
I'd personally prefer beatable opponent in R1 and then seeded player in R2. This way in ideal scenario she would get both tons of points, as well as experience.
