Alexandra Dulgheru!!!

Alexandra is a former Top 10 junior who's been left in the dust as her contemporaries, Victoria, Caroline, Aga and Agnes have made their names on the WTA tour.

Now, Alexandra seems to want to make her own noise. She just lost out on winning her 2nd (and by far biggest) title at the 75K hardcourt in Monzon. She is now within the Top 250 and warrants her own cheering thread! :bounce:

Pous-Tio's clay season was better than Alexandra's (was also in front of her in the Race before the match) and she had some pretty good results nearly defeating Vinci and Kirilenko, so I'm really very happy about the straight win, maybe the Zvonareva loss troubled me in that case.

But the hot weather and speed of the clay season was definitely an advantage for her because Pous-Tio tends to struggle on faster surfaces and Alexandra seems to improve on them

Important is that she had a very good winner/UE ratio which surprises me after her errotic performances in the past weeks also hitting 3 aces! :worship:

The H2H against Sorana isn't that meaningful because Alexandra was far behind Sorana 4 years ago! She knows her game and has to keep the ball in court long and wide enough and should try to break Sori's rythm by using drop shots and slices! Sorana is unpredictable, anyway!

French Open, Round 2:

Sorana Cîrstea def. (27)Alexandra Dulgheru 6:2 7:5

The wind queen is back!

Such nice serve stats in singles and doubles and back to shit again! It was very windy in Paris today which doesn't suit her game at all, but still...

On the other side, I'm very happy for Sorana to take advantage of that and now she has a good shot against Li to do even more! :)

Match stats:

18/33 :speakles:

BP conversion sucks as always: 3/10

There was also one long break at the beginning of the first set, so I don't hope that there was something wrong with her...

Now get ready for the grass season which can't be worse than the one on clay, really...

We all know Grass is the new Clay! :oh:

She won't play the week after RG, but at Hertogenbosch the week after she has to defend a semi...
and if she is likely to be unseed at Wimbledon she could probably go out in R1 there as well and further down the rankings.

At least it should prevent her from only entering the biggest tournaments in the second half of the year: She should really consider to play the ones like Baku, Tashkent, Dallas or Washington to get some easy points there as well as Acapulco, Pattaya or Kuala Lumpur at the beginning of the new year, just to get her ranking and confidence back!

And considering that she hasn't played that much matches, she should be pretty fit, too.

She has the week after RG off, then Hertogenbosch (unseeded ), 130 points to defend, and Wimbledon (unseeded ) 160 points to defend... :scared:

After that I guess she plays Budapest and Bad Gastein on clay like last year, but we should wait for a confirmation!

Upset #10 seed Peng/Zheng in doubles together with Rybarikova... :hysteric:

Urpi's coaching works well...

Fun aside, that and her semi in Rome also in doubles show that it has apparently nothing to do with her abilities, though the double concurrence is of course not the same, but compared to last year, she made a huge step forward, so why can't she show that in singles, at least the service should be better... :weirdo:

But still an important win for her self-confidence! :)

The week after Wimbledon she will play the event in Bastad instead of Budapest this year...

Really no clue why she changed events.

Now see her playing Palermo instead of Bad Gastein the week after and probably Baku instead of Tashkent. :silly:

EDIT: Probably because of Pennetta who is also coached by Urpi and plays Bastad and Palermo :oh:

WTA Hertogenbosch, Main Draw:

[7] R Vinci (ITA) vs. P Hercog (SLO)
A Dulgheru (ROU) vs. Qualifier
[WC] L Robson (GBR) vs. A Parra Santonja (ESP)
A Brianti (ITA) vs. [3] Y Wickmayer (BEL)

Great draw and badly needed! :sobbing:

She has to defend 130 points here! :scared:

Hertogenbosch, Round 1: Alexandra Dulgheru def. (Q)Alison van Uytvanck 7:5 7:6(7!!!!)

Pity that it won't be streamed! Such a fun match! :sobbing:
:oh:

Once again, Alexandra has amost killed me by watching the live scores, but in the end she managed to prevail for one more time! :worship:

The stats look pretty solid with more than 60% first serves in and more than 50% points won on both, the first and second service! :)
BP conversion sucked a big time with only 4/13 (0/6) afetr Alison's first two service games!
3 aces, 5 Dfs, 2 of them on MPs in the final tie breaker, sorry for my finger nails...

Still, she progressed after the hilarious 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 against sucky Coin from last year and won her first grass court match in straights and her first matches on every surface are a hot and nervwrecking mess anyway...

But one thing became obvious again! She total lacks the self-confidence and composure to close things out early or to take her chances which you can see on her slander on BPs also one at 4-4 in the second set! and the epic tie break chokery! But still she surprised me and won it in the end in straights after wasting her first 4 MPs! :worship:

Let's hope that this gave her some confidence back and good luck for the next match! :cheer:

Hertogenbosch, Round 2:

(7)Roberta Vinci def. Alexandra Dulgheru 6:2 6:1 :help:

48% first serves
0 Aces, 6DFs

No words :tape:

Of course, grass is her least suitable surface, but if you have problems with your serves, you should at least try to maintain a high first serve percentage, but today it was simply awful...

Only the drawing God can beware her from a first round exit.

But luckily, that's a long time ago!

In her only grass court match this year she won 4 games against Hlavackova... :spit:

EDIT: Alexandra's 2011 drawing curse reappears and the actual fortunate draw Vinci turns out to be the big favourite to win in Hertogenbosch...
