Re: WTA Ranks Update Thread

Palermo / Bad Gastein will drop the week of Palermo / Stanford
Baku will drop the week of San Diego / Bastad
Stanford / Washington will drop the week of Baku
San Diego will drop the week of Olympics / Washington

Canada, Cincy will actually be the same weeks as 2011

Re: WTA Ranks Update Thread

Just of out curiosity, why is Dolonc now green? I thought all Soviet/Russian born players were red? Yulia Putintseva stayed red after her switch. Not that it's a big deal, but... ?
TBE cheers for Russians who go Kazakh because they do it for $$$. Dolonc actually has real Serbian roots so she is not pure and is thus too stained to merit the Red badge of approval.

Re: WTA Ranks Update Thread

so it's better for Errani to finish 2012 outside top10 otherwise good-bye playing all MM tournaments in 2013?

IMHO no (e.g. USD 50K for WTA Championship alternate & compensation payment for # 8-10 players max. USD 250K)!
Yep! But considering how abysmal her 2011 year was after this point, she can only go up.
Assuming 4,000 points will be needed for Top 10, Sara is only 430 points short. Although she is quite strong in her eight optional tournaments (280-280-280-280-130-70-70-30), a R3/R2 at USO/Beijing might seal the deal.

Is it true what this website suggest that San Diego is on Maria's ranking as a zero pointer? […] did she ever commit to San Diego?
WTA doesn’t inform the general public about Top 10 players Commitment Requirement Tournaments & those members who have access to these data don’t bring it out. However, it’s very unlikely that Maria – she played P700 Stuttgart 2012 and received a mandatory 0 pointer for missing P700 Charleston 2012 – committed to P700 Carlsbad 2012.

Independently, tenismaclari’s definition of “expired” is not in line with layman’s term.

Maria cannot get a 0 for San Diego as San Diego is not a "commitment" Premier in 2012 :oh:
You are misguided!

From WTA 2012 Official Rulebook, p 116 & 117:

3. Premier
Tournaments having minimum prize money of US$740,000 or US$637,000:

  • Brisbane International – Brisbane, Australia
  • Apia International Sydeny – Sydney, Australia*
  • OPEN GDF SUEZ – Paris, France**
  • Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships – Dubai, United Arab Emirates
  • Family Circle Cup – Charleston, South Carolina, USA
  • Porsche Tennis Grand Prix – Stuttgart, Germany
  • Brussels Open - Brussels, Belgium*
  • AEGON International – Eastbourne, England*
  • Bank of the West Classic – Stanford, California, USA
  • Mercury Insurance Open – Carlsbad, California, USA
  • New Haven Open at Yale – New Haven, Connecticut, USA*
  • Kremlin Cup – Moscow, Russia
* These Tournaments have US$637,000 minimum prize money and are not entitled to Player Commitment.

** For 2012, the Premier 700 in Paris has US$637,000 minimum prize money, is not entitled to Player Commitment and is not a Bonus Pool participant. All other Rules applicable to Premier 700 Tournaments will continue to apply to Paris, including the Premier 700 Prize Money Policy, unless otherwise noted.
However, for 2012 both P700 Stanford and Carlsbad will receive a higher compensation if WTA doesn’t fulfill her obligations (p 120) and these tournaments were allowed to use Top 20 WCs on their discretion.
