Yeah,I know that Caroline still hasn't advanced beyond the QFs,but THIS one--a thrashing of a player who has gone deep in Slams and is usually tough to beat--counts as an impressive win,in my book
I watched the whole match against Bartoli. Caroline worked extremely hard the whole match. It looks like her hunger is back.
She has to hold serve better to win her first semifinal of the year
I turned off my ES sound in middle of 1st set, as I couldn't stand listening to them .. but apparently Piotr made some big drama again today? .. What exactly did he do?
Caro will face Kvitova in SF. Petra seems sufficiently sharp at the moment to be a 60-40 favorite in my book. Caro's serve and FH must be consistently better than today if she's going to have a chance of winning tomorrow. She can't let the agressive Czech dictate the whole match. Caro needs depth and angles on her shots to get her opponent running. Movement will always be a relative weakness with Petra. And let's hope Caro can get a handle on those serves out wide from ad court.

There are no match odds yet, as Kvitova only just won, but I'd be very surprised, if Kvitova is 'only' a 60/40 fave .. (I know you said 'in your book'.)
And I think that's fair. Caro is probably in with a ~25% chance given their form atm, but that's not zero and if the Czech only gets about even number of W to UE, there's definitely an (small) opening for Caro.
And even Caro loses, a SF i a P5 is an improvement to last P5
Edit : Looks like Kvitova is 1.6 ... that's for all intent and purposes a 60/40 match
Caro played a long tough match, so she needs a good recovery. Then she has to serve better because Petra wont be easy to break.
One of these 2 will probably win this title and go to Indian Wells feeling like they are on the comeback
I don't think Caro will be tired for the Kvitova match. She was on court barely two hours combined for her first two matches, so with just one tough match in the legs and her great fitness level, I think she'll be well recovered come SF time.
Great performance from Caro today. I truly thought in the third set that she is going to lose her nerve when it matters but I was glad to see she made it. It was a brilliant fight from both players.
Tremendous effort level. If she can do that at IW and Miami, she should get thru to the main contenders, like she is now.
But she had a game point serving 4-3, 40-30 in set 1, then 40-0 or 40-15 when Bartoli served at 5-4. She has to close in those games. Has to, when playing the true contenders.
But overall, that effort level is a big deal, and lets see if she can do this again
This hater is at it again. This is a writer, unbelievable the hatred of the tennis media towards the players. This person used to retweet hundreds of insults of Caro on twitter. Still at it

I can't with this so-called journalist  She really despises Wozniackis, I've read some articles she wrote which were just ridiculous. I guess she cannot separate her favoritism of her preferred players and playing styles from her writing. And some of the things she writes are so GM! I think she must be coming there for inspiration.
if you didn't know she's a journalist you would think it's some troll from TF!
I don't take her seriously! Unfortunately these days there is a lot of those so-called journalists on twitter who trolls non-stop!
But please stop the choking. 1st set from 4-2 to 4-6. Caro had 0-40 at 4-5 but wasted all break points. And in 3rd set she had problems closing out the match at 5-2. Thank God she served it out to win 4-6 6-1 6-4.
Good win for Caro, didn't see the 1st but the 2nd set was really high quality from her! :yeah:
I thought she was moving her forehand around a lot better today too, her forehand dtl was really solid.
Should be a good match vs Kvitova!
It's better to take your opportunities whenever you get them, but it's good,at least, that Caroline was able to find close-out poise after blowing the chance in that previous service game
Many women get so little out of their service that serving isn't that much of an advantage. People will say that they choke when they can't serve out a match at 5-2 or something, but they really don't do anything different at 5-2 than at 3-3 - they just don't serve well no matter what the score is. In Caro's case I think her first serve is ok, but if her first serve percentage is only about 50% or less she has a better chance of closing out a match when she's returning than when she's serving.
I think there is physical wear and tear in long matches. Mentally its tough also.
I think thats a big part of the reason Caro slumped. Her mind just couldnt focus like she used to.
She was broken a lot by Bartoli, and she has to hold her serve to win this, unless Petra has a really off day
If she can win today, she can win 2 titles in a row before IW.
This is a big match because Caro can head into IW with some momentum if she can win here
Easy to see she is playing more consistently, a QF and a SF. Now a chance for a quality win at a Premier
Agree with those who posted that Caroline will probably need to maintain strong form to win today. If she DOES lose, then I really hope that it won't be too much of a mental/psychological setback for her...and that she can still build off of some of the steps forward that she's taken..........back to the match now
congrats Petra, played the best in two years I guess...she was just too good and everything worked to her favour, she hit so many lines and whenever she needed the 2nd serve was havier than the first serve.
Huge credits to Caroline, if she can play like this on a more continuous way she'll be back high in the ranking, but she really needs to start winning those sets when she plays better (like in the second).
yeah for me it was a real mixture of feelings out there today. So proud that she could step up her game at times to hang on against a challenging opponent but again disappointing that the foot still seems to come off slightly when she gets ahead like 3-2 in the 2nd or on many game/break points. She is improving though. Last week against Aga was horrible but I thought today she had a shot at pulling out that second set which is encouraging and frustrating at the same time since she didn't. Overall, I'm happy she made the semi's and think she will have a much better season. I just want her to win everything though so maybe that's my issue:lol:
and if I may add one more thing on a positive note...yesterday's performance against Bartoli was great and such a wonderful turnaround compared to so many losses we've seen over the past year and a half. And she worked so hard today as well.
So I just wanted to say THANK YOU CARO for being such a great competitor!
