(just thought we needed something like this if some of us don't want to venture out into the main forum, by the way, do we already have a thread like this? Sorry if we do)

iPhone jailbreaking (and all cell phone unlocking) made legal

Owners of iPhones and other smartphones are one step closer towards taking complete control of their gadgets, thanks to a new government ruling Monday on the practice of "jailbreaking."

This weekend has seen a flurry of activity about digital rights, but the biggest news dropped Monday morning, when the FCC announced that it had made the controversial practice of “jailbreaking” your iPhone — or any other cell phone — legal.

Jailbreaking — the practice of unlocking a phone (and particularly an iPhone) so it can be used on another network and/or run other applications than those approved by Apple — has technically been illegal for years. Most jailbroken phones are used on the U.S. T-Mobile network or on overseas carriers, or are used to run applications that Apple refuses to sell, such as Safari ad-blocking apps, alternate keyboard layouts, or programs that change the interface to the iPhone's SMS system and the way its icons are laid out.

While technically illegal, no one has been sued or prosecuted for the practice. (Apple does seriously frown on the practice, and jailbreaking your phone will still void your warranty.) It’s estimated that more than a million iPhone owners have jailbroken their handsets.

Apple fought hard against the legalization, arguing that jailbreaking was a form of copyright violation. The FCC disagreed, saying that jailbreaking merely enhanced the inter-operability of the phone, and was thus legitimate under fair-use rules.

The upshot is that now anyone can jailbreak or otherwise unlock any cell phone without fear of legal penalties, whether you want to install unsupported applications or switch to another cellular carrier. Cell phone companies are of course still free to make it difficult for you to do this — and your warranty will probably still be voided if you do — but at least you won’t be fined or imprisoned if you jailbreak a handset.

Yes it is. Hope he recovers soon.

My thoughts on medicine and extracurricular.
Basically you will have geniuses who will get in without due to their grades, as Craig and sickfalsetto (you must tell me your real name ) have said. However, a lot of these people may be socially inadequate to say the least. They'll likely end up in research but the fact is there simply isn't enough non-clinical jobs to keep the sheer brainiacs happy.
Being a doctor requires great social skills and ability to act and remain calm under pressure. So it is important to be a well-rounded/mature person and have good social skills. The clinical jobs really require this aspect.

To finish my last post, realised I didn't answer in full. I'm off this week and then I'm not off again until around Dec 20th. Where we get two weeks for Xmas, this is the only real chunk of time I have before January, I won't be able to revise last year's stuff as much when I'm back in school as I have to keep up with this years work.

I was the one who pointed out 'petit-ami' to debby.

I know the extracurricular requirements may seem unfair but tbh anyone seriously considering Medicine will organise it so in the end everyone has them anyway. IDK I don't mind it, I mean picture it this way: Who would you rather have telling you there were surgical complications and your relative died? The kid who stayed in the corner at school and just studied 24/7, who is all stuttering and can't look you in the face when they tell you. Or, the friendly kid from school who was just as fun to hang around with as everyone else, and tells you it calmly but with sympathy and comfort?

Also I don't think there is any extra activity that will prepare you into dealing with deaths and such in hospitals. It's very hard to deal with. I truly think they should make an internship in their second year after passing the exam so they would not waste more years if they are not made for that.

Yeah, here , the nurses have loads of internships, from their first year. My BFF didn't have a lot of extra activities (only dance), but during her internships, she learned how to deal with that and her superiors noticed her social skills as well.

Although to be fair I think they uni you go to depends on your job as well. I mean Oxford and Cambridge which are the best here, you only get in to Medicine there if you have your heart set on research. That's all they want.

So most of the brainiacs go there anyway.

What's been going on here folks? French Talk? ooh la la.

Ok I loved French in school, during the 1st 2nd 3rd form I loved going to French class so much that I decided to pick it for 4th and 5th form...... First French lesson after summer I walk in that French class and the bitch is going full Throttle on me! Couldn't understand shit she was saying, first of all she was talking way too fast! Couple of months before that was nothing like this . I was like "Je Ne Pas Understand you " and even that was more wrong than just the added English word . Had to quit and pick something different :sobbing:

I think there is definitely less posting by multiple posters but still quite active with a smaller group, but it's busier than ever here *since when I joined* when Maria plays than ever I think. With lurkers and fans.

I've finished American Horror Story, When I catch up on a show I'll focus mostly on that, I need to get on the 2nd season though seeing as it's not far long gone.

No there's only 3 episodes so far. I'm really loving it, quite a lot of different types of horror plotlines although a few have yet to be properly explored. The groundwork has just been set. Do you watch Nikita by any chance?

Yeah I know. I thought that, I mean tournament threads are very busy. I just wondered because I think it was USO 2010 that actually went to 2 volumes. Although I think at that stage most fans thought Maria the legitimate favourite for a Slam for the first time since her comeback. Plus I believe the GM Caro thread went over 1000 posts. Maybe that had something to do with it and it's just an anomaly.

But yeah I'd say there's a smaller group of posters here, although we have a lot that seem to join, there's only about 4 of us this year who really became very active members of the forum. Still, those that post post often. It's just good to have a thriving forum. Oh and there's posters I think who just post in the livescore threads.
MightMashaFan would probably know when here was most active. He's been here nearly 10 years, if he hasn't passed that milestone already.
