I took French for like two years and I don't remember anything but it's something like "For the fans of Sharapova, I hope I'm wrong, but according to my sources, the Russian is announcing her retirement tomorrow, at 28 years old."
Like I said, if she retires tomorrow she must have gotten some news that changed all her plans in the past 2-4 days. Until the start of last week, everything was scheduled like she would attend IW. Guest had been invited etc...this would not have been done if she had made the call to retire by that point...
There must have been some major bad news for her in the past few days if she had to make the call this quickly and rather abrupt.
Hardly gonna be a coach change but that said I'm not sure where Sven is at the moment. Any update from her team? I doubt Maria wants to switch another coach at this stage of her career however given the time she's been working with Sven maybe they wanna end their coaching relationship? And the reason that she's not playing is because she doesn't have a coach yet. Similar to what she did in 2013. I think that left forearm injury is just a medical excuse for WTA withdrawals. It could let her play in Australian Open so it couldn't be that bad given it led to a withdrawal last year if it was serious.
Hi, guys.
I never wrote here but I wanted to do it now so I can share my anxiety as Maria is certainly in my list of favourites.
If she retires before Olympics after all the effort to qualify (Fed Cup), it would be indeed very sad.
I don't see her press conference being about business, although I'd love to hear she is just trolling all of us.
IMO it's about tennis and something huge.
I hope for a farewell tour (RG, Wimbledon, Rio, NY and maybe Moscow)
I'm also afraid of a surgery that will make her skip Olympics but not call her career off yet.
Besides, it fits her personality very well that basically no one can confirm anything about this. Most reserved tennis player in the history.
We will probably see her around in the entertainment and fashion industry, but I'd love to see Maria teaching her fight spirit to some young girls on court.
I'm in denial over a retirement announcement despite the bleak as fuck prognosis. Her AO form could've netted her many some big tournament wins, slams included given how dire the tour is atm. Why reach a slam quarter and then retire right after? Surely she's gonna finish out the season at least??
I don't know if I see Maria dragging out a retirement announcement this much and making suuuuch a big public deal of it. Hell, she withdrew from the USO on Facebook after giving a presser.
