Sixteen year-old Elena is at a career high ranking right now in juniors of #15 but keeps rising.

She won a GA in Brazil in March, beating Chala, Konta, and then Jovanovski in the final and then took some time off (possibly for school?) before returning last week at a G1 in Italy losing easily to Burnette.

Hopefully she is back in form this week at the Italian Open, another GA.

GA Italian Open 1R: [5] Elena Bogdan d. [WC] Claudia Giovine 6-4 6-2

Good start over a wild card, hope she is ready to go now because the real tournament starts. Nadia Lalami awaits her in the second round, haide Elena! :D

Seems to have set up a partnership with Viki Golubic. They played last week together in Acapulco (losing in the first round) and now also in Monterrey. Watched a bit of her match yesterday and Ema was uncharacteristically solid... really, really good match for her :)

Well, her days as a doubles specialist are (sadly?) over. After Monterrey she played two more WTA dubs events, Katowice (w. Mitu) and Istanbul (w. Dinu)... after which she basically restarted her singles career playing 10k's in like Galati, Foscani etc. Currently her ranking is 831.

This is basically her best result so far. Hopefully she can also beat Radanovic as well :cheer:

Btw. watched some of the match today, she's looking a bit fitter than in the past and ofc you can see the quality in her shots. Also nice handshake at the net after the match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aWgM2HHrEs

Lost badly to Radanovic who really was peaking this week tho. Still made a good result in dubs, reaching the final with Irina Bara :yeah:
She totally freaked Irina out after they won the MP 10-8 in the MTB to win the SF:

In the qualies of the 100KH Dubai with a WC. Plays Tena Lukas first round. Elena is 0:1 against her, but this is their first meeting on hardcourt.

Elena is a walking bye right now

And I was so stupid to think she could be Top 30
(I saw her in Romanian indoor championships years ago and was impressed)

Well, I guess you weren't hoping for her to slay in a $100k+H tournament, where she got a QWC to slay out of nowhere, were you ?

Anyway, doubles should be the focus now :

E. Bogdan/Eraydin (ROU/TUR) v Hsieh/Savinykh (TPE/RUS)
(3)Krunic/Voskoboeva (SRB/KAZ) v Burger/Lemoine (NED/NED)
Sharipova/Vasylyeva (UZB/UKR) v Dinu/Majeric (ROU/SLO)
(2)Dzalamidze/Kudermetova (RUS/RUS) v Lister/Moore

Her whole year was an absolute mess. One horrible loss after the other

Elena is a former #151 (2011) ! And at the moment she is only ranked #773

BTW she looks not fit at all :help: Elena should look to Kerber and work hard on fitness

Hi guys,
First on all, as many of you know, three and a half months ago I had my second knee surgery. Happily everything went well, I had a great rehab period, with amazing people around me.
This has been a thought time for me, for several reasons, and there ware times when I thought about giving up my career. But my instinct tould me to continue, and I decided to listen to it.
I have started training for a few weeks now, and next week I will be playing my first tournament back, at home in Bucharest. I will be focusing on doubles from now on, at the doctor’s recommendation, to protect my knees and myself from future injuries.

Second of all, I will leave a link below with a Go Fund Me campaign I’ve created. For a few months now, I don’t have a sponsor anymore, and my friends from L.A have encouraged me to start this campaign in order to get support. I know a lot of athletes who have themselves started their own campaigns, and it helped them a lot with their careers.
So if you guys feel like it’s worthed, please share this link so hopefully it goes to a lot of people.
Thank you,
Much love?

Good article about Elena and pretty much all she's been through in her career: https://www.prosport.ro/alte-sportu...nostic-artroza-grad-3-4-pune-proteza-17551035

She's really trying to make it as a dubs player. She takes Peschke as an example... so if Kveta can be top10 at 43, Elena says she also has a chance and can play another 15 years. It's gonna be really hard tho with her financial struggles and also now with the new ITF rules that favor singles players.

Elena has qualified for the W60+H in Portugal. It is her first singles event since August 2019 and it will be her biggest MD appearance since Acapulco WTA in 2015. Hope this signals a return to form for her as even her doubles results in 2021 have been pretty abysmal since she came back in July.
