For one thing, let "thick-skulled JR" point out that this means reported rapes. I wonder what the stats would be if in countries where victims are more likely 2B ostracized, even by their own families, the reporting rate was the same as in the (admittedly imperfect) USA.

Alleged rapists face life in prison

Two men could face life in prison if convicted of the brutal gang rape of a US teenager who was allegedly attacked by up to 20 people after a homecoming dance.

The Californian 16-year-old was found under a picnic table half-naked, barely conscious and covered in alcohol, urine and dirt on October 24, 2009, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The girl, who left the high school dance because she was bored, was allegedly set upon after a male classmate invited her to a party.
Contra Costa County prosecutor John Cope said the young woman was found with a blood alcohol level of 0.35 and could not remember the attack, but as many as 20 young men may have participated or watched.
Seven men were initially charged and two of them now face gang-rape allegations.
One of the men, Marcelles Peter, 20, faces life in prison without parole if convicted of playing a role in the assault.
Mr Cope told the court on Monday that Peter had admitted to police he had fondled the girl and had left semen in a condom found in the branches of a bush nearby.
Peter has been charged with forcible rape, rape by foreign object and forced oral copulation. Jose Montano, 22, faces similar charges.
Two other men, Manuel Ortega and Ari Morales, had already been sent to prison for 32 and 27 years respectively and two more awaited trial, the newspaper reported.
