Robson, Keothavong Ready For Fed Cup, Grand Slam In Toe.
British Pair are excited for Fed Cup, ready to carry on the success of the British Invasion from the Aussie Open
Nobody quite expected their grand slam triumph, not even the two girls themselves after we sat down with them in a quaint, swanky London Bistro, coffee in hand after their long haul flight from Melbourne. Both girls are getting read to face the USA in fed cup and even though it seems an incredible tough task, Robson and Keothavong are completely confident.
Q None of your matches at the Aussie Open was an easy one. How did you cope mentally?
LR I think it just shows how mentally strong me and Anne are, we believe in ourselves all the time and we really spur each other on which is good for tennis in our Country because we want to encourage more people to play and be role models to everyone.
AK I was surprised myself that we kept ourselves going, I think in that semi final match where we won 12-10 against Bojana and her partner, we knew we could go all the way.
Q Obviously that moment was special for both yourselves and Britian. The UK had a great tournament in Melbourne, is this going to be a re-accuring thing?
AK We hope so. I just hope that me and Laura get to play another grand slam together again and hopefully we can carry on our good form from Melbourne.
Q Yes. You face the USA in fed cup this week. A tough draw. How are you feeling?
AK I know we're ready. Maybe not so much now, the only thing that is keeping me sane is this cup of coffee (laughs) But yeah.... you know I just want us to put up a good performence and play like we did last week.
LR America will be tough but I know that we are the better team and if we keep on hitting through the ball, keep on being confident then we definately have a chance, maybe to go even all the way.
Laura Robson has had a tough couple of weeks
Q Laura, the last couple of weeks have been rough on you, but it seems the Aussie Open has made you believe.
LR Definately. I mean.... I'm not trying to make any excuses for myself but I know that I've had some really tough draws recently, I've always faced a seed in my two tournaments, in Melbourne i faced Mirjana Lucic and took her to three sets, so I know i have it in me, I just need to find my break some time.
Q What are your plans after Fed Cup?
LR This year, I am determined to do well in Indian Wells and Miami, I really want to win a title there and I know that I am capable, I know fully well that I am a future World Number 1.
Q Wow strong words. And it's so good that you have people around you to support you, who are your closest friends on tour?
LR well you know, Anne is my best friend, we are so close and we have all the same interests, especially shopping and sneaking into the men's locker room now and again (laughs) But also Bojana is a close friend of mine, we went through juniors together and we always have a catch up now and again. And of course there's Caro, she's a great mentor and i look up to her a lot.
Both girls are looking forward to their fed cup campaign this week, make sure you stay tuned here with live scores on tennisforum and make sure you all get behind our fed cup team and Laura and Anne !!!!
