I just hope Petra will have amazing next 3 months and she will end this year higher in rankings than Radwanska.

Since Vika, Maria, Aga, Serenka and Angie should be confirmed for YEC already, i hope the remaining spots go to Na, Petra and Samantha  Marion and Sara will only be the whipping girls for the other top players if they make it  Woz and Errani as alternates will be fine with me

With 2 mandatory tournaments left, namely USO(SLAM) and BJ(PM), the current *EFFECTIVE RACE* is as following:

============================
5 Kerber 4675[14]
6 Kvitova 4560[14]
-------------------------
7 Li Na 3992[14]
8 Errani 3720[14]
-------------------------
9 Stosur 3070[14]
10 Bartoli 2725[14]
11 Wozniacki 2671[14]
12 Cibulkova 2165[14]
13 Ivanovic 1923[14]
14 Kirilenko 1860[14]

Re: 2012 RACE TO ISTANBUL YEC (After Montreal)

Kerber's worst 2 of top 16 are 125 & 120 (I think), so if she has a bad US Open and/or Beijing she could go backwards a little.

Errani has less to potentially lose: 70 & 30 points.

Of course it's unlikely they'll fall of the draw out so early, but could be a factor.

Woz, Li, Petra & Sam will be replacing 0 or 1 pointers, so can only gain.

Last spot between Stosur and Errani methinks.. Stosur needs a big result in NY or in Beijing though.

Re: 2012 RACE TO ISTANBUL YEC (After Montreal)

Must be the first time in years that the YEC field is pretty much decided going in into New York.

Wozniacki has 1100 points to gain on Errani, that's massive. Will have to get eaaaaasy draws in NYC, Tokyo, Beijing and even one more.

Errani won't qualify ... she can barely win matches in Premier tournaments and there are no more clay MM

She will make it. All she needs to do is make at least 100 points per event and that'll be enough. Even if she fails to make another QF this year, she will probably still make it (unless someone below her wins the Open which is unlikely). Having a bye and then winning a match in Cincy gave her a cheap 125 points. She could do the same in Beijing and Tokyo, not to mention making at least the 16s in New York. I'm sure she'll also whore up an Asian MM or two.

She's also playing New Haven this week. No more need be said.

Re: 2012 RACE TO ISTANBUL YEC (After Montreal)

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but I want Wozniacki to get that 8th spot.
Me too. Errani played well in Melbourne and Paris which obviously matters a lot. Nevertheless she's still a mug when it comes to perform well at the big stage on a regular basis. She doesn't have a single QF in a WTA Premier Event which is quite bad. I just do not see her as a Top 8 player in the WTA. That AO-QF doesn't mean a lot since she had a complete cakewalk to get there. Paris, well that was okay, she nearly got the title. But that's it. The Top 8 for Istanbul needs to be a group of players who can challenge each other in all important tournaments during the year. Bartoli also just qualified as an alternative after she made the Finals in Wimbly.

Re: 2012 RACE TO ISTANBUL YEC (After Montreal)

I'm really rooting for Wozniacki to take that 8th spot. I'll be rooting for her vulture-ways during the Asian swing. Having Errani being destroyed on a daily basis by the other ladies will be extremely depressing to watch.

Re: 2012 RACE TO ISTANBUL YEC (After Montreal)

what makes you moaners think that Moonballniacki will fare any better than Sara at YEC?
Well at least she doesn't chicken out under the spotlight and regardless of how useless her game is she is indeed a great fighter and would provide some interesting match-ups. Watching Maria avenge those back-to-back losses never gets old :oh:

Errani @ the YEC would be similar to when Gaudio was in the WTF ... he got double bageled by Federer :rolls:

Re: 2012 RACE TO ISTANBUL YEC (After Montreal)

If we use the current top 8 ranking in race to make 2 groups (Sharapova/Azarenka + Williams/Radwanska + Kerber/Kvitova + Li/Errani)
We can have a Azarenka-Radwanska-Kerber-Errani group and a Sharapova-Williams-Kvitova-Li group :spit:
