(1)Mona Barthel (GER) v Chiara Scholl (USA)
Q v (WC)Lisa-Maria Moser (AUT)
Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) v Andrea Hlavackova (CZE)
Q v (5)Kiki Bertens (NED)
Good draw for Mona here, being 1st seed is nice as well and QF has to be her goal here at least.
Scholl is in awful shape and Moser or Q has to be beatable as well, SF seems more than possible also but unfortunately u never know with Mona but as I said, QF it has to be at least IMO
Re: Mona´s Summer 2013 | Bad Gastein & US Open Series (final stop: US Open NY!!!)
1st serves in 40/54 (74%)
1st serve points won 30/40 (75%)
2nd serve points won 9/14 (64%)
It appears that her service game's modified forever.
She seems to feel comfortable on gritty slow hard where her type of players can hide liabilities in defense, so I get excited for the rematch with Kvitova though I'm not counting out 2nd round exit yet..
Re: Mona´s Summer 2013 | Bad Gastein & US Open Series (final stop: US Open NY!!!)
I don`t know how some people already can speculate about later rounds and her to be some kind of favorite in her quarter.
Regarding the short interview in her news thread Mona is, how could it be different after her easy win in the first round, in a very good and relaxed mood.
But she does not exaggerate at all and is concentrating and looking forward too her next match, which will be hard enough and Mona knows that.

4-6,2-6
Well deserved win for Riske.
The way Mona got wild, frustrated and then completely lost her game after the 4-2 lead in the first set was very sobering.
The way her game melt down is a deja vue and it means that there still is a very long way to go for Mona to become a professional player in it`s proper meaning.

Well, I didn't see it but it was obviously a disappointing performance.
Mentally Mona has to make improvements it seems. It's one thing to lose, even by a poor scoreline, it's another to mentally lose it. Losing is okay so long as you fight, but mentally losing your focus is not. Not for a professional.
Riske is one of the players who has really struggled to break into the wta, she has been stuck at the level one below (challenger level, or whatever you call it for women) for a while, only getting the odd result on grass.
I guess the fast surface of the USO does suit her, but nonetheless she is one of the best 4 or 5 players to draw in any slam.
Was Mona getting coached from the stands? I'm surprised that people could actually hear what was being said, was it that loud?
It's fairly common among the women to be coached by parents. Less common in the men's game but still possible. It can work, depending on the relationship and the knowledge of the parents. In Mona's case perhaps it isn't working.
Re: Mona´s Summer 2013 | Bad Gastein & US Open Series (final stop: US Open NY!!!)
If she had won this match and had lost to Petra i would have said she had a decent US series, but this loss was really embarrassing She is back to low level
Re: Mona´s Summer 2013 | Bad Gastein & US Open Series (final stop: US Open NY!!!)
She just didn't know what to do. At 3-4 in the first she told her mother "I don't know what to do". Later she told her mother (who was coaching her the whole match) to shut up
Re: Mona´s Summer 2013 | Bad Gastein & US Open Series (final stop: US Open NY!!!)
a LOT of top players?
Most players that actually want to improve get a real coach at some point. (Exception is if the parents are professional tennis coaches)
Having a parent as your coach can be helpful for younger players though.
What exactly is the advantage of having your parents as your coach if you don't listen to them (like Mona did)?
