Good luck Kaia! It would be so awesome if she wins, she could most probably get to play Serena in R4.

Day session match with CSN? Or night? I already saw its third match.

Anyway, good luck Kaia! Bring your A game. Serena-Kaia 4th round would be so

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Amazing win over Stosur, Kaia !

7-6 in 3rd set. Drama. Such an important win. Very happy for Kaia

Should give her confidence. Keep it up. Please upset Navarro too

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Great job! Lost only 1 game from 1*-4 to the end of the match
This game where CSN served for the set was tough to follow, I would have been so pissed if she had lost the game after those BPs. But after this game, Carla folded and Kaia rolled.

Really excited about the match against Serena. Kaia needs to keep her perfect record in 4th rounds

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

A great win over a difficult opponent.

1st set was shaky. CSN was 4-1* up, then 5*-3. After that Kaia won 10 games in a row. Though CSN's spirit was broken in the 2nd set.

Kaia really needs her 1st serve though. It made a whole difference. And she'll need it even more against #1 Serena Williams. They've met 3 times before, and those haven't been beatdowns. But I'm worried that if her serve's nowhere to be found, this could go very very fast.

Good luck vs Serena. Do your best!

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Really happy about this result. Kaia played some good tennis and didn't fold under pressure. CSN was hopeless in the second set. Now do your best against Serena, give her a battle.

If Kaia manages her double faults and serves good then she can win Serena. Good luck!

If Kaia serves well and Serena doesn't FOR THE WHOLE MATCH then she can win for sure like Garbi or Ana. She just can't get nervous

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Serena has only lost 3 matches on hard this season. She lost to Ivanovic, Cornet and Venus. Let's hope Kaia can pull off a Cornet

Shall be difficult though as Serena is a defending champion from the past 2 years

Kanepi pulls off second straight upset

WHAT HAPPENED: Playing an inspired brand of high power tennis, Estonian and No. 50-ranked veteran Kaia Kanepi continued her unlikely US Open run by taking out No. 16 Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain, 7-5, 6-0 to advance to the fourth round on Saturday. Kanepi won the last 10 games of the match.

Kanepi fell behind a break early in the first set but roared back, overcoming some erratic play with an impressive power baseline game. In the first set alone, Kanepi had 17 winners to balance 6 double faults, 17 unforced errors and getting just 37 percent of her first serves in.

In the second set, Knepi's game looked far more polished as she hit 6 winners to just 5 unforced errors.

Kanepi's run here comes as a bit of a surprise as she failed to make it out of qualifying in New Haven, her lone summer hard court tournament. But she has definitely turned a corner in this tournament. In the second round she had an another impressive win over the No. 24 seed and former US Open champion Samantha Stosur of Australia, saving two match points in the third set tiebreak.

Kanepi, 29, a five-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist, including at the 2010 U.S. Open, moves into the fourth round where she will take on the No. 1 player in the world and two-tiime defending champion, Serena Williams.

Suarez Navarro, a quarterfinalist here last year, looked to be in control early on. She broke Kanepi in the fourth game to go up 3-1, helped by the Estonian’s back-to-back double faults. But the momentum began to slowly shift in the seventh game. Trailing 2-4, Kanepi nailed three forehand winners, including an up-the-line blast on game point, to secure her first break. Suarez Navarro broke right back, seemingly righting her ship to go up 5-3. But Kanepi kept her composure. It took four break points in the ninth game, but Kanepi finally did secure break No 2. From there, it was the usually steady game of Suarez Navaro that seemed to come undone, helping Kanepi win the final 10 games of the match.

In the second set, Suarez Navarro won just 10 points, hitting 10 unforced errors, two double faults, and just one winner.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN: Kanepi hits with plenty of power and she has found a level of confidence that didn't seem to be there earlier this year. If she builds on this win and can keep her errors down going forrward, she could give Serena Williams a scare.

In the Grand Slams this year Kanepi had lost in the first round of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. She reached the second round at Wimbledon with an upset win over No. 7 seed Jelena Jankovic in the first round. The last time she has gone as far as the fourth round in a major was the 2013 Wimbledon, where she reached the quarterfinals.

Coming into this match Suarez Navarro, the highest ranked womens player with a one handed backhand, had scored solid wins over twor big hitters: Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia and American CoCo Vandeweghe. Known for her consistency, she has reached the third round or better in seven of the last eight Grand Slams. She looked sharp coming into the Open, having beaten Maria Sharapova of Russia to reach the Montreal quarterfinals.

QUESTION: Kanepi has plenty of power and is playing well. But does she actually have a shot against the world's No. 1 player Serena Williams?
