Dorothea Lambert Chambers returns to tennis in May after an 18-month absence. The press wondered if her time was past. Could she play as well as before? Her reply was to whip through the Wimbledon draw with the loss of only 16 games in 6 matches. In the semi-finals she had difficulties early on with Edith Johnson, a surprise winner over Gladys Lamplough, but coasted after adjusting to the stiff wind. In the final Dorothea won easily, though Dora Booothby did score several aces off her serve.

Dorothea Lambert Chambers went undefeated in singles matches all year, winning 7 tournaments out of 8. The only event she didn't win after entering was the East Surrey Championships in Croydon, London, where she defaulted the final because of a cold.

Nesham is the married name of Frieda Meyer; Schmitz is the married name of her sister Nora, who had moved to the United States and married an American. Their sister Cornelia – Connie – with whom they had competed in the same event at Wimbledon in 1905, had died suddenly in 1907 at the age of 30.
--

On her Wimbledon debut Sophie Castenschiöld becomes the first player from Denmark to reach the quarter-final stage of a major tournament.

The Challenge Round match is over in 25 minutes. Dorothea Lambert Chambers is devastating. "She never played better and ,as usual, her marvelous headwork, rather than the actual force of her stroke, gave her victory." [source?] Dora Boothby never gave up, four times extending games to deuce. Both the score and the time remain Wimbledon records for a final match in the women's singles event at Wimbledon.

Lady Domini Crosfield (née Elliadi) and Dorothy Elliadi are sisters of Greek origin, although Domini was definitely born in England.

Evelyn Dillon and M. Dillon are English sisters; the "M." stands for either Melita or Minerva ("Minnie").

Lent is the married name of the German tennis player Anita Heimann.

In the absence of the holder, Dorothea Lambert Chambers, Ethel Larcombe finally wins a Wimbledon title. Ethel, the former Miss Thomson, earned it by defeating both Blanche Hillyard and Charlotte Sterry decisively, in the semi-finals and All-Comers' Final respectively. The two losers have 11 Wimbledon singles between them!

Unbeaten in singles in 1910 and 1911, Dorothea Lambert Chambers had had her second child in April. She had announced her intention to defend her Wimbledon crown, but changed her mind after a long mixed doubles match early on in the championship.
--

The five foreign entries were all unfortunately in the same part of the draw. The American Elizabeth Ryan makes her debut and will enter Wimbledon every from 1912 to 1914 and from 1919 to 1934. Her first Wimbledon is memorable as she holds a match point in her quarter-final against 48-year-old Blanche Hillyard before losing.

Hollick is the married name of the English player Ada Spencer. Beamish is the married name of the Englishwoman (Winifred) Geraldine Ramsey. Satterthwaite is the married name of the Englishwoman Phyllis Carr.

The long-awaited showdown between Ethel Larcombe and Dorothea Lambert Chambers doesn't occur. Ethel, the defending champion, was injured in a freak accident the day before the Challenge Round. While playing the mixed doubles final, she was hit in the side of the face by her partner, the Irishman James C. Parke, who had smashed the ball from behind her. As the Challenge Round was scheduled for the next day she was forced to default. When Ethel won in 1912 many felt it was because Dorothea was absent. However, Ethel had won an encounter with Dorothea just weeks before the 1913 Wimbledon.

Dorothea Lambert Chambers isn't pushed by any of her opponents, winning 5 matches for the loss of only 17 games. This is her sixth Wimbledon singles title in eleven years.
--

The women's doubles final is also marred by injury. Charlotte Sterry tore a tendon in her leg and had to retire when she and her partner, Dorothea Lambert Chambers, were just five points from victory at 6-4, 4-2, 40-15. The beneficiaries were Dora Boothby and Winifred McNair.
--

The decision of the International Tennis Federation to grant Wimbledon the title of "World Championships on Grass" prompted the All England Club to give the women's doubles and the mixed doubles events full championship status. A women's doubles event without official status had been held at Wimbledon in the years 1900-07, while a mixed doubles event without official status had been played at Wimbledon from 1900 to 1912.

Hudleston is the married name of the Scottish player Alice Ferguson. Colston is the married name of the English player Blanche Duddell.
