Maria is pretty much the best CC player around - and she's about the hardest person to put away in tennis besides Serena maybe. Disappointing that Sam couldn't keep her level up - yes, but i'm still feeling really good about this week, showed she's still a contender hopefully she can build on this now for the remainder of the year.

Stosur really played well up until deuce 6-3 4-3 on Sharapova's serve. Maria though really did up the anti and hit a lot of unbelievably good shots at that point, raised the bar, and really moved the pressure off her and onto Stosur to come up with more. The 2nd set really was neck and neck, and it was obvious that if Sharapova won it that she would streamroll the last set. Its a pity Stosur isn't more animated or pumped on court, whilst Screamapova was giving me the shits, I give her credit for really staying focused, fighting and intimidating her opponent in that last set. Looking forward to a good US Open from Sam. Hope she can grab a top 16 seed for that!
^ Spot on. To borrow the latest AFL term, Maria just plays 'better for longer' and is intense on EVERY point. Mentally draining for most, but not for Maria.
Nice to see that Sam is back in the winners circle after the very indifferent start to the year. She seemed to be getting a little more punch to her game whereas during US hardcourts game looked quite ineffective.
There's more to life than just being happy.
Soooo disappointing she couldn't get over the line. Massive effort though. Proud of her.
Shame this won't bump her up the rankings much. Through another clay season and in the same position we were before it.
